Since my message is long too for one post, here are the rest of my thoughts regarding the next event:

Overall I had a fantastic time on the trip. Dusty, you did a great job putting this together. I understand the problems that can occour with large groups. I am ready for next year!!
My only issue was with Justin. It seemed like we were there for quite a while before the tour and lunch happened. I have this feeling they sent somone out to buy the food after they counted heads!

specifically to the wine. Oppolo and Dover Canyon are two of our favorites. Wine is better, we think, and less expensive. The Zinfandel festival held annually a few weeks before the speedy run, is a great time to check out some of the vintners besides Justin. Grounds are very nice also. Justin, because of their Isosocles, up prices everything associated with their winery. I could go on a bit here, but many of you are probably aware of the differences I'm sighting. Aside from missteps caused by Justin, our first trip was a dandy. We'll be back next year. Hope to see more of you on July 9 and 10 at the Warbirds.

All,
I have not yet been to a full SOC Morro Bay Weekend. In 09 I was there Friday night to go to dinner with good friends that were attending. I briefly met Jen, Warren and a few others before I had to blast back to Sacramento for a work related thing Saturday AM.
That said your event is VERY small with 47 cars. I Chaired the 2006 North meets South in SLO and to heard 200 cars for the show and 350 cats (people) for dinner. It is quite the thing to pull off. Here are my thoughts after reading this and the other thread started by Jen with her "options" and ideas well thought out in answer to Dusty's input question.
Dusty,
I don't know you at all but Warren is dead on. When you go from a small group to a larger or very large group you need to have several things to do at the same time. Some folks want to shop. Some want to have a wash and shine, "bench race" and drink beer. Some want to go drive the piss out of their cars. Some want to go wine tasting. The "Big" dinner is usually at the end. What is the purpose of the "Big Dinner"? To me you need a hook like having a few people getting mentioned for all the hard work, thanking sponsors, having a raffle and a few being given a small trophy for something or other like longest drive, peoples choice car show, funniest drunk story....etc.
Each event really needs to be a little different in location, time of year, things planned or to me it gets boring. Events need "freshened up" from time to time. Yes it is fun to see old friends and hopefully meet new people that become new friends. That is what happened to me in 2006.
Change can be a very good thing because it opens your eyes to new possibilities.
Cheers!

NOPE
Dave,
Your input is noted. However, I assume you do not know the full story behind all of this. On top of which your event is certainly larger but it has a very different dynamic ... plus you have a club agenda; a number of committees; club dues; Event Fees; treasury funds; AND yours is a real club. WE are just an internet forum with no formal organization.

Dusty,
I feel honored you "noted" my input. Please don't dismiss me that way.
Full story? Why don't you let me know the "full story". I don't need a "story" to see that Jen did as you asked and came up with a idea that might just be a good time for all. The one thing she did not do was send the information to you first but posted it as a 'What about this idea" and a lot of people liked the idea. Did you really want input and welcome a bit of change or did you just want to control things and keep them as they are. You should open your eyes and ears and embrace a bit of change.
Maybe even though this is not a "real" club it is a group of like minded people that have a common bond and enjoy getting together along the California Coast once a year. I for one think Morro Bay is a "been there done that" kind of place. I tried to change things up with the North meets South event and fought "City Hall" and ruffled a few feathers along the way. I also pulled off the record setting turnout.
I don't want to take over or "Hi-Jack" anything here but I for one will support Jen's date, place, and time and have the weekend already reserved for Pismo Beach.
Come on down I'll buy you a beer!

UNCLE!
Jack,
I don't think "UNCLE" works as a club name. ;)

This could almost be one of the definitions of a "club"...couldn't it?
I think we need to organize...

Well then Vince, my vote is for you to step up to the plate and do it. But the questions is, will you attend the club activities?
