Car was running fine until I got on it briefly.  Didn’t take it to redline but close. After slowing down some backfiring and at idle acts like its only running on 3 cylinders. If I accelerate it has full power but when driving a normal speeds it goes to low power and backfires when letting off the throttle. I have adjusted the valves, checked the wires, cap, rotor, checked the plugs ( plugs were just done 200 miles ago). Now the mechanic is going to try a different distributor, and last rebuild the carburetor’s.

Has anyone had the same issue? If so what was the issue?

thanks,

If you are running dual Weber style carbs they run on idle jet only until about 1/4 throttle is open. I have had this issue when the idle jet on this cylinders carb throat was clogged. Pull the idle jet and blow it out. This may fix the issue. If you continue to have clogged idle jets you may need more, and better fuel filters installed. The smallest containment will clog the jet. Hope this helps.
