To bad we're on opposites sides of the world as I have a nice running 1600
Tom has a kick ass CB 2054cc that I think will be available (it was spoken for but the client has disappeared). Not a cheap motor but way cheaper than a new CB 2054

C'mon, Alan. You know you want to.
Ed, you know me all to well, I did kick the Suby idea around last night but, after careful consideration as to I don't know jack about doing a Suby conversion I don't have time to sit and learn....I get Gary's speedster build back to him early January, kick back in Florida the last 2 weeks of January,I only have approx 13 weeks to do a complete speedster build ( been down this road before) so it's Type 1 plug n play.
Alan....you're in a direct collision for doing the right thing. Ed and I could easily walk you thru the ( paper thin ) '''WALL OF MYSTERY " of a Soob conversion. Electronic or not, it's just not that hard. Be FIRST ON YOUR BLOCK Al, to offer this common sense option to your 41'st build. Do the right thing , Al. Kit the damn process.....you've got time on your hands, eh ?
Alan,
If there's a hoist available at Carlisle this year, I'll give you the pit monkey tour of my mostly-reconfigured Subi: guts, feathers, and all.
13 weeks is short time indeed for a first H20 swap. I suspect you could do it. I'd try to get a weekend or two in with you. But, right. Maybe next year.
What are you putting it in, Al?
The "Fiji-Coupe" will be visiting Carlisle on her inaugural, "lower 48" tour?
I may have to talk Pearl into making the trip. And my butt, too......
CMC black flared has been sitting 29 years with no holes drilled in it yet like new glossy gel coat....I just can't devote the extra time learning and fabricating a Suby install just isn't enough time to make Carlisle

I saw this when I dropped off my CMC to Alan, this looks mint. hard to believe there are some unbuilt speedsters out there.
Gary
Tnx Mango but that exceeds the motor & trans portion of the budget
I ordered a bunch of chassis parts today from CIP1 they are running a 20% off and free shipping deal. Front and rear disc brakes w/ E' Brake, big master cylinder, brake lines, 2lb. residual valve, Kafer bar etc. ( Thanks Gary for that heads up)
No problem, Alan, I didn't know you were putting rear disc brakes and a Kafer bar on my project car.
Gary
I have a '75 Porsche 914 1.8L Type 4 - stripped of cooling tin, fan and alternator. Has T4 Bus Solex (think I have 1 or 2 extra Solexs) carbs with short intakes, linkage and balance tubes (no air filters). Turns over and stored inside. From a very rusted out NJ 914. Still has 914 forged flywheel. $450 plus shipping. I can strap to a pallet and wrap in tarp for shipping.
Ready for a Joe Cali or Jake Raby cooling system.
I think there's a couple photo's on my profile's clips but not sure how to access them.
Located in Baker, FL 32569 - near Pensacola.
I'd throw in my copy of the Cali conversion manual if that would help sell Wolfgang's Type 4.
Here's picture of my engine without carbs. Engine is ~30-60# heavier than T1 and just a little wider = still fits easily in CMC engine bay! Rich did the Cali conversion on his first stock T4 engine.

Thanks but I already have found a long block motor. ~A
