Ok this is starting to get on my radar. Here is a pic from 2008.
Here's a link that is from TOTD, but, at the top, there are links to several of the well-known drives. Any experience with any of these? http://www.tailofthedragon.com
I will do the Dragon while I'm there, but certainly open to as many runs as we can squeeze it. If we don't have a plan for Friday morning, I may head out bright and early and do the Dragon before the weekend traffic gets there.
Guys,
I just received a link for the Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley, NC. From what I can tell, it's about a 2hr buzz down the parkway from Asheville in the opposite direction y'all planning to head on Saturday. Didn't the group make the run to WTT one year?
It looks pretty cool to me- and the tour looks as good as the destination.
Whatever you guys plan- I am sure it will be great, and I wish I were able to make it. Safe trip to all!

We did the museum two years ago and it was great. I would be willing to go again if that's what folks want to do. If you're into motorcycles, it's a must see.
I think a lot of the folks coming this year weren't along for that trip, so it seems like a winner to me. Jack, you missed the 2010 trip, and I know you'd enjoy this. Who's in?
I'm in. As long as there's good driving involved, I'm not too particular about the destination.
Hey Tom Raymond - Can you hook us up with the guy who owns the museum again?
Right, Lane---I missed the museum and would like to do that if it's on the agenda.
Also I know the TOTD is overdone but I'd do it annually and enjoy it every time. In fact Townsend, TN was a wonderful place to HQ.
Lane did you get that issue with your car fixed? I just went through a wierd one---a new bushing for the steering wheel. Wierd becaus my '68 pan is using a '67 steering wheel!
My car is running primo these days and I'm looking forward to a nice long road trip.
Glad Tom . is joining the group this year---Marty too.
There is a world famous Motorcycle Museum in Maggie Valley that might be a nice cruise and destination, look forward to seeing everyone, Yes on TOTD - Russ
Russ---what bike is that??
Ok, sounds like a plan. Tom Raymond knows the museum owner and will try to hook us up when he gets back from Europe. That's Friday during the day. Now to pick a place for dinner.
So after the museum, would that be an oppotune time to do TOTD? It looks like we could do The Diamond Back as part of a trip to Boone, maybe Saturday?
Marty, will you route through Cincinatti or through Columbus? Columbus is a tad longer, but I haven't went that way before & am planning to go that way for a change of scenery.
Tom, my route sends me down through Indiana on 65 to Louisville, Kentucky.
Marty--your trip might be shorter if you take I-65 to Indy , I-74 To Cinti and hook up with Tom at Cinti then I-75 to Knoxville and I-40 to Asheville. You could caravan with Tom that way. Ours is easy---jump onto I-40 at Little Rock and stop at Asheville.
See you and Sandy there!
Right.
Greetings from Stuttgart. I have suggested to Lane that you guys can contact WTT to see if they are still open and what their hours are. I will definitely be with the SOC on Sat, 9/23, and possibly on Friday as well, plus Cynthia may maadjoin us on Sat.
She joins me in a strong fondness of German horsepower.........she has 14, I have about 1250 !
This trip is great. Yesterday my son rented a new M3 for the day, which we spent with Alios Ruf and HP Lieb (HP's son is a Porsche factory driver), and in the Bavarian Alps. Tomorrow we visit Porsche and Mercedes before heading to Neckarshulm, home of the Audi R8.
Back to Mountain Madness, I am trying to get several area PCA folks to join your drive on Sat 9/23.
OTAY!!!
We are on their calendar for 21 SEP 2012. They are giving us a reduced rate of $10 as the Speedster Owners Club. Tom was concerned that they would be closed as they have talked about moving out west, but today I was told "We aren't moving anywhere." Good for us!!!
There seems to be several threads going. This link leads me to believe that we could take "The Diamondback" on the way to Boone. http://www.tailofthedragon.com/
Maybe. I can't any links to The Diamondback to work at the moment. We'll have to see if it'll fit in the day. Some folks may opt out, but it could be fun.
Well done Marty. It looks like one could make a loop off the BRP. Those that want to go can. Those that don't, don't have to. Or, one could do just do the Diamondback and return to Asheville via I-40 via Marion. I'm feeling the need, the need for speed.
If it's only 12 miles, I can't think of a reason we couldn't fit it in. Hmmm...
I'm in.
Just two more weeks folk! I'm gettin' excited. Get those cars ready.
I am in. Where it the recent attendee list?
What is the schedule for Friday, I want to join you guys for at least one day before I have to go back to work.... on Sat
Clint
We don't have an official start time, but I would venture a guess that we would leave the hotel around 9:30 or 10:00 and head to the museum. Once we're done there, we might want lunch and then folks are free to go cruising the mountain roads in the area. You probably know those better than the rest of us.
Marty, we have been sadly remiss in keeping the attendee list up to date. You'll have to scan the last couple of pages, but I think we'll have a good turnout.
Definately out now.. I had a electrical fire in the engine bay..Got the car stopped the lid up and the fire out. If i had not been paying mind and shut it off quicky it would have been toast.. I know now i want a bigger fire extinguisher.
It's a mess but the paint is undamaged i've done washed the engine bay down and sprayed it with WD 40 untill I get the engine out and re detail everything and make a new harness for the rear half of the car the inside of the lid may have to be touched up but the out side surfaces are fine..
I dont know what happened But i am going to figure it out and add saftey features that prevent this.. at the least a fuseable link or a fuse.. I supect a alternator issue or the lead to it from the battery..
You're lucky. Your car could have ended up looking like this:
This is a photo of my old IM that I bought back from the owner after a serious engine fire.
This is what she looks like today:
"serious engine fire"?? Cudos to the Humpty-Dumpty who put it all back together again
This photo chills my bones.
What was the brand name of that automatic fire supressor?
Sorry to hear about the fire, but glad you got it out out before more serious damage was done.
DAMN!
You got snow this early up in Vancouver??????????
We should be rolling into town and checking in around noon Friday. I'll just keep an eye on this thread as far as everyone meeting up. I'm sure we will be up for whatever for Saturday. I think Sunday we are going to do the Biltmore. Here's my cellphone number if anyone needs to give me a buzz and here's what we look like!! LOL

Chase - you two are WAAAAY too good-looking to be part of this group! You will have a great time hanging with these knucklehead SOCers.
Yeah I spent about 10 hrs on photoshop to make me look a little better. Here's the unedited pic. LOL Should be some good times next week!
Everybody please send me your cellphone numbers and email addresses via dialog, and I'll distribute via email. That way we'll all be able to stay in touch.
