I assume that the switch you are using is for metal and not the thickness of the fiberglass dash.
You can reduce the dash thickness from the back side, either with a die grinder or a rasp bit in a cordless drill.
Either way it will be messy. You can have someone hold a shop vac hose next to the area to reduce the fiberglass dust.
Taking it slow is the name of the game stopping to check the depth as you go.
Post us a picture before you goop anything. I wouldn't goop a part that may one day go bad Or need key work in the future . Or if you broke or lost your keys. UUAA BOY ..

I need to see what you have. You might be able to file the shoulder or if its a US thread I might know of a different ferral you can use Im pretty good one the mid fiftys cars, All the brands of that erra.

I do know as fact Vw and porsche keys work in Ford locks and key switches of that erra.
