I used a 928 front plate bracket from the 80s, both with and without the bumper. Two holes, right in the center of the bumper, and then two holes right in front of the nose. I centered the holes in the nose on a line with the bottoms of the horn grilles, measured halfway, and then measured out from center to the two holes in the plate and centered them up. Much less painful than hanging the rear plate.
Here's one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-79-to-86-928-License-Plate-Holder_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ34204QQihZ002QQitemZ120128489716QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V
The 928 bracket is "H" shaped, and really easy to mount with quarter-twenty bolts. Badda-Bing. I think it was Alan's advice to turn the drill backward to get through the GelCoat, and then run it normally to finish the holes.
