I'm sure that got Gerd's attention. Sorry Gerd.

Ok, I've read the threads out here on the breather box debate. I get it and I'm venting as advised. But, I keep looking at the mounting of the box. I just installed the aluminum 16 gauge firewall per recommendation -looks sweet by the way. Everyone says mount the box (again -sorry Gerd) up as high on the firewall as possible -get that. But I keep looking at the void in the front of the shroud where the single carb used to be. If I mount it on the front of the shroud (where the single carb used to be -not between the firewall and the shroud) wouldn't it move with the flex of the engine, less hose, easier to check etc.?

BTW, I'm venting from the fuel pump block off and the oil filler tower then going to the air filter of the right carb using 8AN stainless braided hose. Not needed I know but I LOVE the look of braided hose and blue AN fittings. Have you seen the pink AN fittings? OMFG. Pink Red Sox hats are bad enough but now it's in our plumbing?

As always, thanks for your two cents.

One comment here- The box Rich showed near the top of the page (and Art had a pic of a couple posts later) is a little small, and a higher revving engine (especially if it's somewhat larger) can overload it. It will work on a mild engine, but will really benefit from larger hoses being used, as they will add volume to the system and slow down the air/oil mist travelling to the breather box. This will promote some of the oil falling out of suspension before it ever hits the box.

Rich- What are the dimensions of your box?

I went with this box and verdict is still out (road test0 but seems to work throughout RPM range .

I cut a piece of wood and took the angle from the body so the mounting surface would be parallel to the fan should. The wood was epoxied to the body and I used stainless screws to mount the box to the wood as mounting to the firewall was out as my fuel pressure regulator is mounted there.

The hoses run down to the valve covers and also to the oil filler neck.

Mike.

I love the contrast of the different colors in your engine compartment.  Very clean!

This is a simple but kind of expensive setup. It's a CSP breather that mounts on the fill tube. No worries about where to mount it and it keeps the lines short and neat. I also took a couple of shots of the deck prop pin. It bugged me rattling around on the firewall so I used a quick release pin and a quarter inch billet brake line clamp I had left over from another project. I thought it looked a little more sorted.

Good stuff! Again, thanks for all the info.

On a side note, I have practice on the Charles river tomorrow morning a year after the mess. We're expecting heavy police activity which is good of course. A year ago, my HS kids from Boston were isolated in their homes, the lawn of our boathouse across from Watertown (where they finally caught him) was filled with ruts from all the military and police vehicles. After it all came to a close my girls showed up for practice -walking in ready to work through all the ruts. As their coach, I couldn't help but wonder what was going through their minds.

Anyway, we live for today gentlemen. A safe and happy year to all!

i have a similar breather.  the top is not sealed, so i would not recommend mounting it sideways.  it will drip oil.
