Mounting steering column

Any creative (bracket) ideas for mounting the steering column. I'm using the older style VW column with the separate ignition switch.

I assume that you are looking for a way to mount the column to the underside of the dash....
you can use the original VW clamp,
an ugly U bolt and wrap in in shrink wrap tubing,
or measure the diameter of the column and stop at a Harley dealer or custom bike shop and pick through the many bike related choices.

Bike parts?... You'd think I would have something laying around the garage that would work. Is there any reason to keep the outer tube. If not I could use a sandrail type mount.

The only reasons to keep the outer tube, that I can think of, are;

(1.) decorative - it covers up the steering column with a nice decor tube and;

(2.) it also provides you with a handy-dandy directional switch mounting point.

Not having it means that you have to find another way of mounting your directional lever (and maybe horn wiring, too)

BTW: A VW Steering column is just about the same size as a chromed, telescoping fork mount on a motorcycle - check around.

I used a billet fire exstingusher bracket for mounting on a roll bar. I had to make some slight mods and drill and tap for the mounting bolts.

Joe, that column bracket looks great. I might give that a try, if not I'm sure I have a MC fork bracket in my boxes or parts...
