Is anyone interested in joining me for a 50 mile cruise up and around Mt. Wilson ? Meet at Hill Street Cafe in La Canada a 10am, start the cruise at 10:30 and return to the Cafe for lunch and head home.

This is the famous Angeles Rest Highway with it's hills curves, bridges and tunnels. .......Bruce

Great Jim....Always glad to have you. So that's two of us.

My general plan was to meet at the Hill Street Cafe parking lot. This Cafe is right at the intersection of Angeles Crest Highway, Foothill blvd. and the 210 fwy. All we do is go north on Angeles Crest Hwy. Round trip is about 50 miles  in a big loop and end up where we started. Mt Wilson ha two Observatories. One is a 60" telescope and the other is a 100" and were the biggest in the world up until 1949. You can walk up to them and go inside most of the time. You can look this up on a map but the general route I had in mind goes like this.

Angeles Crest Hwy up to MT Wilson, then back down from the observatory to the main hwy (about 5 miles) continue on Angeles Crest Hwy and turn left onto Big Tujunga Canyon Rd. until we turn left onto Angeles FOREST Hwy which takes us back up to Angeles CREST Hwy and then down back to the Cafe for lunch if desired. The drive is very curvy and full of hills so it's a fun workout for our cars. The view is mountains and canyons, rocks and trees. a couple of bridges and one tunnel. I have a couple of walkie talkies to keep track of us front and rear. That's about it.  Just a fun little trip. I will be trying out my Go-Pro on a car mounted pole.........Bruce

OOPS...Sometimes I just assume everyone is around here because we chat a lot on this site....Marty...Why don't you air freight your car out here. Maybe you could sit in it and not have to buy a seat ! Plus no parking fees at either end ! You could bring your own lunch and an ice chest with plenty of adult beverages! Maybe you could do round trip in one day ! You too Bob ! Ha ha

I was thinking yesterday that here I am, right next to a whole mountain range and why don't I drive around up there more than I do ?  We have seasons out here  (but not like back in the mid west where I came from)  and it IS interesting to drive thru the changes throughout the year.  Heck...just drivin around is a kick in the pants ! Plus I get to count TUM's  (Thumbs Up per Mile).  Right now...It's 8:30 am and the sun is already blazing. It's cool and clear. I got half a notion to just get in Rhonda and head for Mt Baldy today. That will be a future cruise suggestion once I collect more info.

Went to a cars n coffee at Orange county fair ground parking lot a couple Saturdays ago. That was fun and interesting. I left there and took PCH over to San Pedro to a Dive Club beach dive/picnic. About 30 people were there.  Went to the Aquarium at Cabrillo beach Park as well.

I think a cruise down Pacific Coast Hwy from say,  Redondo Beach to Laguna Beach some early Sunday morning would be exhilarating and end with breakfast at "The Cottage"   Just suggestions and things I think about while I languish in retirement Heaven ....smiles...........Bruce
