For those that don't know, Punk'd is a hidden camera show on MTV. The host is Ashton Kutcher (That 70s Show). The basic premise of Punkd, is to play pranks on celebrities while secretly taping them.

Season 1 Episode 1 started out with a prank on Franky Muniz (Malcom in the Middle). During a dinner out, they stole his car from the valet. Several times, Franky refers to it as a "Porsche Speedster worth $200,000". He then states that "only 200 were made" and that "it is irreplaceable because no more exist".

Basic Speedster History:
1954-1959 4854 Porsche Speedsters were built. Nicely restored models are priced about $70,000(US) today.
1954-1959 140 Porsche Speedster Carreras were built. Nicely restored models are priced about $200,000(US) today. See Johan's excellent carrera site for more info.

Franky's car is obviously not a carrera. It sounds like a 1600-1776 VW, but then again sound can be added into the production later. Visually it looks like a standard 57-58 speedster.

By looking at the visual clues in the brief shots of the car, I am confident that it is a Vintage Speedster replica. There are several visual giveaways. The passenger

He is just a kid....a wealthy one, but still just a kid. Trying to impress everyone and still having the sense to buy a replica that he could drive is actually pretty smart on his part. He is fooling only the other people his age that he wants to fool....I don't see any real harm in it considering he is just a kid.
He also bought a movie car a few years ago. Remember the first "Fast and Furious"? One of the cars was a VW Jetta (white). He bought that car. Of all the cars shown that was probably the last one I'd have bought, not a big Jetta fan.

But he's young, has money and its his to spend. He'll probably have an absolute kick racing cars! Who knows, he may be the next Steve McQueen. And he can look back and laugh at himself for his statements regarding the replica speedster. If there's one thing I've learned in life its that I will always have a chance to look back and laugh at myself...

It's definately not a genuine Speedster. Second row from the bottom, second from last shot.

Late model VW windshield wiper arms with plastic caps covering the 10mm nuts.

But, what if he took his "ride" to the Ultimate Whip guys and got it tricked-out.? Those a$$ wipes sure get a ton of cash for ultra cheezy carpet covered composite board speaker boxes . . . maybe it IS possible to dump that kind of money.
