Murphy # 2 Don't be so rich!

After sync -ing the carbs last night I found the I still had a vacuum leak somewhere. I replaced the intake manifold gaskets. I started it up for a test run today and BOOOOOOOMMMMMMM! I look under the car and see this.
This is starting to get expensive.

Why was this? Was the exhaust too restrictive? Man this is a real bummer but you are so close!

Well the first problem is raw gas + a backfire = explosion. The weak link being the sheet metal seam. These mufflers are trashed. The wouldn't happen in a welded muffler. I am looking a Magnaflow Stainless steel welded mufflers. Too bad it cost so much to have these shipped over for Germany with the header system.

If you decide to try again with the Anhendorp silencers, i've a set sat in my garage looking for a new home - they didn't look like they'd fit under my Chesil well, so I had a custom silencer arrangement made instead.

Trouble is they are heavy so postage would cost, as you've already found.

Joe, I think if you call MidAmerica they have a glass pack dual tip like mine and it is made for VW engines....its relatively inexpensive and may be just the ticket for what you need.
