My previous post on this topic is closed, so I’m posting a follow-up here.

My 2022 VMC did not come with an external oil filter.  I’ve been contemplating adding one for a while, and had questions how to do so.

I’ll skip the boring details about how my thinking evolved and cut to the chase.  I asked Greg if he could install a filter on my car similar to what he now includes as part of his standard build.   He agreed and was kind enough to fit me into his busy calendar.

The location Greg uses is interesting. He installs the filter mounting plate to a new bracket he welds to the frame at a point between the axle and trailing arm.  It is a bit tight but it works.  Hose routing is simple because the oil hoses to and from the oil cooler pass right by this spot, so one of my hoses was untouched while the other became two shorter hoses to include the filter plate.

I took a few photos to help illustrate.

Looking up from the ground:

This shot shows the bottom of the filter which is well above the shock mount and seat pan:

As a side note, before making the decision to do this I was able to visit VMC and see firsthand an example of a filter that was installed on a car up on a lift.  While chatting with the mechanic working on that car I noticed a few improvements Greg has made to his builds since my car was delivered.  Greg and his team continue improving their product, as he continues to prove to me he I made the right choice buying my car from him.

I have the air conditioning option on my 2023 VMC so there is a lot more gear under the car.  Specifically the AC condenser tray under the torsion bar.  Do you guys think there's enough room to add an external oil filter?

Sure, but where you put it can add some head scratching on how to route the hoses to and from it, especially if an external oil cooler is involved.

Where there's a will, there's a way, but get a quote or two, first, to decide.
