Latest on the build 2/5/05:

The frame was completed last week, the larger trunk was inserted into the tub (for the rack and pinion option), the tub was mated to the frame, and some detail work was started. After the underbody prep is completed next week, the body/frame will be rotated for the next series of preps. After seeing some pictures I am pretty excited as I see it coming together! The close up photos show IM's excellent work and attention to detail. I will share them (pics) after load them from the e-mail.

My radio was shipped from S&M Electro-Tech to IM yesterday with all the mods and some detailing done. I highly recommend Greg for radio restorations or the upgrades like Steve and I just had done. Write if you want more info.

I changed tires to Bridgestone Potenza 950s in the 190/65s. These are highly rated all season HPs at a great price. They are being purchased from the Tire Rack.

That's it. It's happening!
Bill, as far as I know Henry hasn't used one. I asked for one with my build but for some reason he thought it wouldn't work and installed a standard sized lead-acid instead. This made it an absolute BITCH to get the spare in/out.

Now I'm in the process of replacing it with an Optima - don't remember which one except that it has bolt-on (cap screws) terminals for the usual large SAE clamp-on battery cable terminals.
Hey George! I always enjoy your thoughts and suggestions. Let me know what you find that fits. I have thought about this too, and even going with the faux 6V top that fits over the Optimas for a nice finishing touch. Again, let me know what you find out as far as a fit.

The build is coming along at a nice pace and I am excited, big time.

Alan, I sent your tire bill, $500!!!!!

Gordon, thank you!

Jim, it wasn't on Rich's Speedster. I purchased the plate (with exactly the radio and bracket!) from a german guy who is into restoring the old Blaupunkt radios. It will replace 'the modern automatic turning Kenwood unit' Rich choose. But I am sure the guy has more of these plates! Tomorrow at my office (it's 2.14 a.m. now) I have will dive up his email adress from an old computer anf forward it to you.
Thanx, George, I bought a Red top 75/35 Optima today. It fit down in my CMC front well nicely. It has side and top terminals. I'm planning on using the side terminals for the main connections and the top terminals for a feed to relays and the like up front. Besides being spillproof(You can mount them on their side), they are supposed to be more vibration and heat resistant and discharge much less when not in use.

Jim, the radioman is Manfred Karl. I purchased the Blaupunkt Frankfurt with original bracket and your favorit plate from him. We had nice e-mail contact. His mail adress is: alia1@gmx.de
I will paint/brush the bracket black of caurse. I already bought the black356 knobs which will replace the Blaupunkt ones.

Jim, this is the same person I bought my radio from....it was very nice!!! Did anyone find a good source for replacement buttons and knobs for the Frankfurt?? I have a tuner knob that is just slightly out of wack because the set screw hole is a little worn. I would replace both of the knobs if I could find a source?? If not I will fix the one I have.
I am putting in the optima, for the above reasons. I put them in everything I own. Red top is fine for most people...129 dollars, and the ultimate new yellow top is in the 169 price range. They also have a better amps available rating on the starts. The yellow top is really for people who have a lot of current draw because of high wattage stereos and or after market lights and such.
Hey Mart and Steve! Go to another topic thread I started under (Speak German) General. It shold be just a few down from this. I have found a German site that sells the plates this guy is using (I think) and they sell Bezels, knobs, trim plates, alllll of the stff. They have black, white and Ivory knobs!!!!!!!! (Mart, thanks for the address!)

Some day you all need to translate to this Okie: "CostCo?"

Just a short update on where things are with my Speedster. Henry sent a note w/pics that he is finished with the first stage of paint prep. I think there is a 50/50 chance that Ruby Red will be all over it by the time I go up in early March. He has all the parts on hand or on projected delivery dates to work with our timeline.

My radio came in this week and they bench checked it and gave it a thumbs up. Henry is working on a neat mounting set-up.

99.99% of the build is decided and so it's cruise control for me. But, I just found some mail I missed from GB with a couple of neat ideas. It's always tempting!

I am excited about the trip in a couple of weeks and am now setting a date to fly up in April. That flight will be one way.

I have been Speedsterless all winter... and today we hit a balmy 74' with light winds. I am DTing bad now... But the snow forcasted for later this week will help the withdraw smooth out for a few days.

Jim,

Re Costco, maybe they haven't discovered OK yet. It is a Washington based retailer that has branchs all over the country, except OK I guess. It is one of those no frill places, buy things in big quantities, have everything from frozen popsickles to Grand Piano's, I kid you not. Article in Forbes, I believe say that the average customer spends $50 or $60 in there each visit. Their secret is offering a limited number of items for a good price. The are outdoing the Waltons as in Wallmart. Anyway, they have little old ladies at the end of each merchanise aisle giving out samples of the merchandise food items, dry roasted nuts to yogurt to clam chowder. Fun to cruise thru there if you are hungry and even if you're not.
They always have specials on items that if you like what you see, better buy it because thje next time you are in there, it will be gone. Fun place, one of the few stores I enjoy visiting.

Hey Jim,your car is looking great.I think your car is about two weeks behind mine.My car is at the painters now,Henry says there is a good chance that it will be painted by the end of this week.I think I will go up Fri. and see how our cars are coming along.Bill's car must be just about done.I think Henry is waiting for the engines for all our cars to arrive soon.I plan on going back up in two weeks,I think on the 10th. or the 11th.I also believe that Bill will taking delivery about then.I have not talked to Henry about a delivery date for my car but I hope to pick it up the week of the 11th of April so it looks like if my math is right your car should be ready just in time for Knotts.Brooks
Brooks. Thanks for the comments and updates. I arrive 3/9 after lunch and will leave on the 11th after lunch. Maybe you can join us. Rick is finding some time out one evening, so maybe we can time it that way. It will be fun to check out the paint on your Speedster. Bill's is slated to be done on or about the 10th... so that will be a plus too. I am going to ask Henry if I can sleep in my Speedster ;-)
(Re: Terry "Boompa", That primer was a shade lighter than your awesome copper, or Penny.. I think yours is a great color, especially with those wheels.!... Yes, it is getting exciting now! Hope to see you soon! Jim "G-Pa-Jim")

Latest Pics show paint on 3-7-05. Glasurit Ruby Red. Final sanding and Polishing will be finished 3-9-05. Then the parts start going on. CB Perf has the engine crated and enroute to IM now. The Auto-Haus Bivens Wheels will ship next week.

This makes the month long detailed body prep process worth it! Man, am I glad my wife talked me into the Ruby.

Two more pics in the folder show LR in detail and a Front shot.

...I get it, Henry paints the car and then puts it together! I think mine was driven through the paint booth, a lot like a car-wash, and voila! In and out in under 3 minutes... and what's up with this sanding and polishing? Novel idea. My guys figured if the paint dries, it's done, no?
Ok, I'm being a bit harsh. The fellows that painted my car were most likely weary from carrying in the cartons of rattle can gloss black back from Pep Boys. I'm certain that midway through the job their little fingers were really tired from holding down the button, but they perservered!

I can't wait to see it at Knottzzz!
