Paul, you're teasing, right? I had a VS and I thought the paint quality was pretty decent if not perfect. Don't all the Porsche replica builders paint the bodies separately and undressed, as it were? Mind did, but didn't use the glasurit process but rather PPG base/clear.
John
ps. You should start a new thread so the "luddites" with dial up can keep up with this build, right Stan?

Jim and Brooks,

I am going to try and meet with Henry in the next week to layout a configuration for a new IM. I am in Issaquah WA and have had a couple emails with Jim, great info BTW.

Hoping to do a Roadster RS in dark gray/black top and carpet w/ red upohlstry but am having a time keeping the $$ down due to wanting all the options. Trying to make it true to the year, so I am going to cut back on power accessories and the like.

Hope to see both your cars there soon.

Scott
I agree with Vince on the degree of body work and paint details.

I had a really good shop do the body detailing and paint on my CMC (because I know what my limitations are and paint is one of them!!) and I remember them taking two days just to make the rear cowl and engine cover match together on the curves. The wheel wells took a few more days. After it was all prepped, the primer and paint took a week, rubbing between coats.

This sort of detail is time consuming and requires someone with a good eye and really good hands to make it come out perfectly. All of that costs a lot of money.

John, John, John...Of course I'm kidding.
Vince, poor boy, I realize there is a slightly higher standard at IM, for which one pays accordingly...

I just wonder why after soooooo many cars on the ground over there at Vintage, the paint quality and the prep quality is still so-so and the first-choice engines are, uh, weak?
That's all.

I just played with fibreglas for the first time in over forty years and it's cinch it'll be another forty before I get involved with it again, but I ain't trying to make a living at it!

Maybe it's too much to ask for the quality bar to rise up some, eh?
Thanks for the nice comments.

John, my VS was built in a month, a great car, and a lot of fun, but I wouldn't dare describe the paint as perfect or near perfect......

With IM it took more than a month's time just to fit panels, filler, block sand, primer, block sand, wet sand, paint, wet sand, and polish this body. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for. Take a look at the fender well lips... that took a few days. Parts collection started in November and the frame three months ago.

See ya soon! Luddite? You have an old new tech SAWster and you are a Luddite! Nooo way. LOL!

Somewhat Objective.
Jim, as in Bob
Re; all the posts. I'm happy.... and that works for me as a customer!

Vince, it will be great to see you again! I always love your pics, and you are my kind of owner. You drive and enjoy the community! Never Forget!

Paul, we usually agree, but that's nothing new!

Gordon, and so you said it takes hours of prep and that costs $. True, but maybe there is a higher bar without cutting profits, eh? I look at my IM buy as a value! Take care. Don't you have a grandbaby on the way..? Is this numbah 1?

Scott, congratulations! I will be in contact. I think a few others will be too. Your plan sounds great. and I have some pics to share sometime of grays that you might find interesting!!!!! Talk to you soon!

Jim Bob
OK. That's a very nice wheel. I just ordered a 'wooden' VDM GT wheel from Jeffrey Fellman (Florida). I just missed one of him on Ebay and called him. Had a very nice chat with him. He is really a restoration man. The wheel will finish the Carrera-look I want to give my dash.
