Lookin' GOOD ! No, GREAT ! ! ! !!

Jim, where did you score the delicate little interior lamps on the kick panel and what's the shiny little button at the top of the dead pedal? Maybe the dimmer? The "Kill Switch" for the tail lamps/brake lamps in case the Heat's on your A&&? Surely not the NOS button?!

Jim,

As an OT question. How does your friend like that driveline combination? I'm in the midst of a 914 body on a tube chassis project and I have those components already for the drivetrain, but was really wondering about using such a low R&P in a daily. I know that the 700R has a nice overdrive in it, but still . . . maybe he's running a cam that moves the sweet spot way up in the rev range ?

Could/would you ask him for some info if you get the chance?

Thanks,

TC
Hey Jim,thanks for posting the great pictures of our cars. They all look amazing! I am astonished at how quickly they are coming along.I hope our cars are finished at the same time so we can get together when we take delivery in a little over two weeks.I hope to be able to drive my car on the 10th for a shake down and take delivery at end of that week.See you then.Brooks
Here's a pic from Sat. The engine was installed the evening before and then driven to check the systems. An alignment was done and a few other items. Monday the Cooler and other items are installed and the finishing work begins. Henry starts driving it that eve. On Tuesday the exhaust system will be hung and detail begins.

TC, a black out button on the dead pedal might just be the ticket... or lack of one!

You asked about Rick's 350-700 set up in that Duece and a half Chrysler Limo? Well, it motivated 4500lbs of 'aint America great' chrome and steel... imagine what a 300hp or a 400hp 350 would do for you! Even better stroke it to a 388 CI. A friend here had an XJS with the chevy conversion and a 388 in it. It was a bad ass cat!
Jim

car is looking great! Question -- the muffler really looks like its hanging down. Is this correct or is it not buttoned up yet.

I will tell you first hand I have hand more comments on the growl of my roadster from Porcche owners ...I think alot of it has to do with that great exhaust tip. Mine pops out on the left hand side of the bumper.

Dean
Hi Dean.. about that exhaust. That's what IM uses as a temporary exhaust while the custom system is being coated (if you opt for it). Henry's team fits the system to the engine then removes it for coating. In the interim what you see in the pic is what they use until the coated system comes back.

I know what you mean about the sound of your exhaust. I was just up there a couple of weeks ago and had the pleasant experience of hearing Bill Steele's Roadster when he took it for test drives. It was like yours (See Bill's pics!) It was "just right".. but YOU know that!

My exhaust is similar to your system, but will exit in the center (See George Brown and Scott Sloan's pics..) I opted to go with black coating all the way to the Chrome tip.

Thanks for the positive remarks... there are still a few things to go, but it's getting there. I am super pleased with IM and the progress.

Victoria, eh? I'll be in Vancouver later this week. I'd love to see pictures of your ride!
Dale even told me that red cars would have to park around the corner unless we put covers over them. I think he is ashamed of us Bill!

It's good to know you and Hank are going to be there. The drive the next morning should be one that we will all recall for years to come. Even if Dale is a bit snooty about Roadsters and Red cars.

Scott, Eddie, Ralph, Terry and I will be arriving about the time the coals are primed. Bruce is going to do a pit stop for us on the way down... water bottles, and a case of beer, before he Steve and Angela start their trip. Pretty cool of Bruce, eh? I wonder if Paul is coming out that night? Paul??????

Check out this shot... Henry drove it home today! I think they still have 4 days of work, with the detailing and parts... but it's getting close! I'll put some miles on it this weekend... the WX is crappy now... so pray for sun on Friday! Monday we will go over it again, oil, valves, etc, then Tuesday around 11 am I will load the bags and make a run for the border. Got my Tags and Title Today!

Dale, what do you think about the carpet? Looks like yours, eh?
Jim, Congratulations on getting your title and tags. I have an appointment with the CHP for my VIN inspection. I called the CA BAR for an appointment with a SMOG Referee (actual title) and was told I could not schedule with the Smog Referee until I had a valid VIN inspection document (welcome to the USSR). The whole process here in CA is serial and will take a while.
Hey, thanks Bill. I thought this state was bad... but, Califorina must be a piece of work. I may have a pic of what I will run on the car for now (tags). When I get home I will be running an original 56 tag, with a window sticker allowing it.

I hope the rest of your process goes smoothly. I look forward to seeing you and the whole gang at Dale's and then at Knotts.

Jim,It is looking iffy on my being able to get up to Henry's.I can't make it this week, but maybe Monday. If I don't get a chance to see you Monday have a safe trip.If my car is far enough along try and get a few pictures of our cars together.Your Derrington wheel is the perfect choice for the vintage look of your fantastic new speedster. Brooks
Dale, thanks for the compliment on the Mufflers, it was Jim's idea, although he made it seem like it was my idea, I have to learn how to do that, I would like to be able to use that technique on Mary.

Jim, I think you should hang with that plate. There is something really righteous about that plate on such a beautiful car, kinda reminds me of Louis Armstrong signing.

Mike, just what we all need on our cars, more attention from the CHP. Thanks again for the great renderings.
Bill, I hope your baby Duke shows up today! And yeah, I am a little proud of that tag.

All, this thread has almost ran it's life. I leave in a couple of hours to fly up to IM and on Tuesday I will start the drive south, joining Scott Sloan as we make the first leg of the road trip to Knotts.

In two weeks I will post the final pics of the IM Speedster completed, and broken-in. This thread will finally end. I appreciate your indulgence, suggestions, and remarks as I shared my excitment at each stage with you.

I especially want to thank Mr. George Brown for his good heart and the gifts (Hellas) he offered that are priceless. George has sent a few badges for me to select something special from and I will share that in my last pics too.

Six months ago I solicited the opinions of many of you on the direction of this build. Many responded, and I have saved those mails in a folder. As the build developed there was a group that continued to help out, offer suggestions, and also gave support during some difficult days. We have shared E-Mails now for a few months, while following Bill Steele's and my builds at Intermeccanica. In support and knowledge of the medical difficulties this informal e-mail group came up with a name.. "The Ward Auto Gruppe"... partly in fun and also in a touching gesture. And so I thank the guys that are a part of that. Your friendship is deeply appreciated, and your support, at many levels, will never be forgotten. May we continue to share life, and the love for 356Rs.

And finally, thanks goes to Mr. Henry Reisner, for the many calls, mails, the patience, the assistance in every facet of the selections, the friendship offered, and the understanding that came with the 6 month relationship that is a part of each IM build. Henry is tops in my book. And so is the entire crew... simply, the best.

I hope this thread offered a peek of the IM build process. I opened the thread, not to brag, but to share in the fun and the excitement.

Pics in 2 weeks.

Adios, Jim Ward

Down side is, i have no pics of Jim wards car...

Brooks.. as you know your engine should be in by tonight.. :) and maybe henery be able to go for a quick test drive before he leaves to head south? Also i wish my camera had Sound.. since there is a quick 7-9 second Vids of both yours and Jims engines running on that stand, but without sound thou :( ahh least you both know how they sound anyways :)

yah and it sucks about the weather here.. ahh bet Jim is still having a blast driving it around all the same if he was dearing to take it out :)

Kevin, thanks for the great pic, and a great car!

Brooks, the weather here has turned very nice, sunny, mid-60's perfect top down weather. I took it out yesterday to run errands to pick up a few items I needed at the hardware store to mount badges. The car runs awesome. I spent the evening washing and putting 3 coats of Zaino wax on the car, the black is going to be a handfull to keep nice. I think maybe I should have gone with Silver, especially as the newness wears off and my motivation wanes. I need to get back out there and get the badges mounted and a few other details taken care of before the long drive to Knott's next week.

I will post a few more pics, as soon as I get them sized and up on the server.
Bill,

my car is in for the engine swap. Pretty excited to be picking up the car this Tuesday. Yes its the 2332 -- sticking with the 4 speed. Basically check out CB Performance for the specs, alum. case etc.

The 2100 was good but there was the need for more umph! Call the swap a luxury but hell thats why we work right!!

I must admit some envy in seeig some of the undercarriage shots on this thread The black exhaust systems are a really nice touch. I have the same exhaust but not coated -- gotta talk with Henry on that one!

I will have the car back just in time to join the local porsche club for a run through the backcountry this Saturday -- hopefully with the top down.

Dean
I just talked to Jim in Vancouver. He has already put a mere 850 miles on his new speedster since he took delivery last Thursday! He has driven in snow, rain and under clear skies and reports his new car is running flawlessly. His car is now at Henry's getting a oil change, valve adjustment and detailed before he hits the road for Knotts.I hope to have a few pictures of his finished car to post shortly.,Jim is one happy guy!Brooks
