Hey guys, I just took off a Sway A Way adjustable spring plate (short torsion bar irs) on my car and will be replacing them with cut down stock swingaxle units and the weight difference is 3.24 pounds per side (and I haven't drilled any holes in it yet)! Stock spring plates take a little longer to set up for the ride height you want to run (may take a couple of tries) but let's face it- you'll never touch them again, so what's the point of packing around all that extra weight? And I won't have to worry about the polyurethane grommets squeaking or rougher ride... Al

Whew. I'm relieved.
I thought you were going to say you stopped drinking beer...
I was afraid you lost your muffler.

Go wash your mouth out with soap right now!
Seriously, Bob, I don't think that's gonna happen any time soon. A neighbor came over in the middle of things, the lawn chairs came out, the fridge got opened and I'm surprised I got as far as I did!
Great. A typical speedster owner's afternoon. Start work, buddy comes over, stop work, drink beer, talk about cars.
taco bell $1 specials work just as well to lose some quick weight.

Yeah, Bob, it was a good evening!

But that's a little unpredictable as to when it's going to take effect...
White Castle is much more predictable, and therefore, my go-to diet aide.
6 pounds! Zowie! Congrats, ALB.
Here's a brain teaser maybe. Are the spring plates considered sprung or unsprung weight?

Iwas wondering that myself, Ed.
The engineer in me would vote for unsprung. The spring is the torsion bar, upstream on the torque arm.
Agreed. The trailing arm(in my case), spring plate(torsion bar cars), axle housing, brakes, rotor, wheel, tire, etc. Also the swingaxle, and half the weight of the spring and shock.
Thank you gentlemen!
