Hi all I am currently building a coupe body almost from scratch and would welcome any inputs.
I bought a speedster shell and was able to borrow a 1960 356 bodyshell which is almost too far gone to be usable.
Since I want to be able to have a 6 foot car (that is it will be almost idistinguisable from 6 feet) I took moulds of almost any aspect of the old steel body About 18 different parts werte copied. along this route I realised why speedster bodies were made as they are with the under bonnet and rear seat area done in a certain way in order for the body to release and be finished in one piece.
when a roof is added this requirement obviously can not be met and other possibilities open up since the inner and outer bodies needs two different moulds there is the possibility for a completely smooth engine compartment and a underbonnet area much more accurate than the current speedster body.

I was wondering if anybody has given any thoughts as to what the SOUL and Character is that the owners of original porsches talk about as I am curious to understand this school of thought
I am certain that there is a few features on a early porsche that when replicated will give the same handling platform eg the porsche beam is tilted rear ward 11 mm to increase caster the pedals are on stilts and the car is lower than a bug using the same basic building blocks. The few old Porsches I have driven all had the smell of stale petrol as they were not used and I have suitably aged a can of fuel to add this feature....

Seriously what would be the features to aim at when building a coupe
From some discussions it seems leaks is a huge issue.

some pictures of my build can be seen here:

Dude!
You are amazing! That is some mad skills, there.
First off, the "soul" of the car is what you bring to the table. It's how you personalize it. Are you planning on making it to look like an original or are you going outlaw?
The beauty of a replica is that you can do whatever you want without pissing off the purists, that is, no more than they already are.
I tell you what, with those skills you should really think about producing a hardtop for a speedster. There are a lot of guys here who would be interested in purchasing one.
Really nice work, Armand! Welcome to the club.
Absolutely amazing work, Armand! By the way, the blue coupe on the second page of your thread belongs to Gerd Kerswill, a frequent visitor to this forum. Also the copper-colored car with the "Volkswagen" script belongs to Terry Nuckels, who post just above mine. Please keep us informed on your progress.

Oh yeah, what Terry said about the hardtop is absolutely true. Also, I love "The few old Porsches I have driven all had the smell of stale petrol as they were not used and I have suitably aged a can of fuel to add this feature...." Maybe you should market your own perfume. :-)
in the area of an add on hard top for a speedster, i just bought a hard top from the widow of the local mercedes dealer that had one made for his origional 56 speedster, it fits my cmc like a glove. if anyone would like to copy it ,get in touch with me, 209-777-3660 right coast time 8am to 10pm. it has tilt out, side rear glasses and a flat rear window.
