Thanks for the pics LC. If you get a chance, would like to see the rain guard on where you cut the hole.

I don't ever plan on taking mine in the rain and I think I am ok with cutting a hole out. Did you just basically cut out a square so you can see right thru the grill and leave the rest for mounting? I plan on making a knuckles vent prop but kinda like the idea of not having to lift and close the deck lid all the time and running around with the deckled propped doesn't appeal to me from a looks point of view.

Robert M !..........Thank you so much for the source info on the bio foam !     I just ordered a box of 6 bricks for $60.   It's exactly what I was looking for and I had forgotten that podiatrists use it all the time. So I'm off on another adventure of discovery !

My engine configuration is a 2110 cc, 36hp fan shroud, dual Weber 44 carbs, and in a VS body. This will be the configuration I will be finding a pattern for a potential newly designed "rain shield".............Knowledge is Power !............Bruce

Hey Bill,  I thought about your way yesterday when I had the lid off, didn't plan on this at all , got a wild hair up my ass and just did the stand for extra insurance this weekend , still plan on a scoop and louvers .

HUH ?These fixes on my car have worked without any repercussions to the integrity of the car  . That's the wife's RED ROCKET Honda in the background , I tweaked her new car with reprogramming the computer , and a bigger turbo and waste gate,  new coil packs and changed the variable timing settings ,,,, SCREW THE WARRANTY ,,,  She picks on Mustang Cobras and Porsches , If it's got an engine I can make it faster ,

Jim,, All sarcasm aside ...You must not have many Moths left with all the flames you all have there now  !!!.. living in Cali isn't that big of deal anymore . Been there done that !

Let's close this out ,,, Merry Christmas

Your bio foam clogs up and you can't oil it like K&N ,, done that one !

1221171514James here ya go ,,, if you use the K&N or the UNI Pre-Filter sheets you can oil them and that should repel some of the water should you get stuck in inclement weather. I just cut the sheets to fit up inside the deck lid , also I noticed the cuts you made , that they all are squared off , this has a tendency to crack easier. try to round your corners off if you can it relieves stress better . Good Luck

You’re welcome.

The bio-foam I recommended is for a different project Bruce is working on. It will not be used for filling up the gap left by cutting out the rain filter. Bruce is our resident scientist/engineer and he wants to measure shape and clearance under the engine lid which is why I showed it to him.

For those of you who are interested, I received the Bio Foam and today I'm gonig yo take some impressions between the engine lid and the top of the engine to determine how much clearance I have. Then figure out (from that info) how much bigger the "rain shield" can be enlarged/opened and still operate like it was intended.

If anyone has some suggestions or helpful hints, let me know..........Bruce

I didn't get to it today...Got the damn flu instead so I'm just taking it easy for a while. Times like this I'm glad I'm retired.

My past experience with water on the engine was in a Porsche coupe and a Fiat 600. In both cases it turned out to be a wet distributor and wires. Anyway, we'll see what I come up with and easily measured with a Manometer. Some of you know I already have that data on my stock "rain shield" with it's negative pressure readings

More news...I have come up with a front license plate holder for Porsche B's and C's.

It's magnetic also like the one I make for our Replicas. On the drawing board is one similar to that and will fit a real A    But no holes need to be drilled in the bumper....... Anyway. talk later, feel like crap right now...........Bruce

Bruce , your phone doesn't take pictures ? Nobody around you has a phone that takes pictures ? Ask a 6 year old kid in the neighborhood if you can borrow theirs ..... Buy a throw away camera and scan the photo ,,, come on Bruce ...

Really want to see your improvements over the Porsche factory engineered design .  Show us !!!!

Thanks for the help on the camera. It was a corrupt chip. Fortunately I had no photos on it that I wanted to keep. I use a flip phone that I have had for years. I don't even know if it has a camera. That how behind I am on all the phone technology these days. LC,  I live in a sort of retirement community so I didn't have access to any six year olds around here to help me out.  I know you're really interested in this project I have undertaken  so if you really do want to donate $20.00 please do so. I would appreciate your sincere support. You can send to my PayPal account as a gift. I will gratefully use it to replace my corrupted chip. Porsche Factory Engineering.....I don't think I would even try to out-do them. They Have/Had some of the best and way out of my scope of purpose. Given that I am working on a replica that's been replicated thousands of times by now, plus built engines that sometimes triple the horsepower, it's no wonder that overheating conditions can occur. My focus is to see if I can eliminate any air restrictions from outside the grill to inside the engine compartment without drastically changing the appearance of the "Rain shield" .  Keeping in mind that these tests and mods will be based the engine size I currently have in my car. Once those numbers are known, other tests can be made as well. This modification may not be for everyone in terms of skill level,  tools,  application, cost, interest, and heck, even ambivalence. It is, however, interesting to me and I'm just plain curious as well.   I will post photos along the way as well.

Attached is a photo of the Bio-Foam I will be using to determine what clearances I have between my current "rain Shield" and the fan shroud and etc.   Oh...in the background are several Nikonos 35mm underwater cameras and lots of strobes and arms and light meters that are going on E Bay as one big lot.. Had to go to digital like everyone else. I still dive and take Photos and occasionally sell one to a magazine or whatever. If anyone is interested in collecting antique cameras let me know.....Bruce

Bruce, Let's see some pictures of your car that you're building ,,,, BEFORE, you start this project.

It is a lovely picture of Bio Foam though. Nice lighting . Glad we waited for it .

Even on pudding night at the home , 6 or 90 somebody has to have a phone with a camera . OR, do they take them away from you there ?

Make it easy on yourself ,,, modify a VW Ghia rain tray or a Beetle convertible rain trays to fit . Some old Geezer did it on his 356A coupe in Sarasota. Next time I see him I'll get a great flip phone photo for ya !

GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LC , Look,  When you chose  stop trying to be snippy, terse, and rude you and I may have a decent conversation about something useful and constructive. Let me explain a few things from my point of view. The Photo of the Bio Foam was for those on this site who have never seen the stuff or an alternate way to use it. I try my best to write at a level that everyone should be able to understand. I find your comments offensive when you refer to "pudding night" and "Some old Geezer" "nice lighting" and "Glad we waited for it".  I don't know how old you are but it doesn't matter.

So here's my offer to you. Try to respond to this last post in a decent, respectful, and non pontificating manner and maybe we can continue a dialog with something interesting and constructive.   Here's my start.

I am basically finished with my car and have been driving it for a couple years now. But being a lifelong tinkerer, I always come up with things. I like building and improving things rather than service, repairs and maintenance. I absolutely will post photos of my car and thank you for asking for some. I'll try to do progressive ones to detail the changes and mods,  I would really like to see those photos of your friends rain tray in his  356 in Sarasota.  Lastly, did using Bio Foam work in the Swamp Buggy ? It seems to be a little delicate for this purpose but you never know.....   Looking forward to your response......Bruce

PS here's a couple photos

@aircooled And don't forget your contributions to the entire replica and original 356 communities with your own custom designed foot pegs, wing windows, door pulls, license plate brackets, and sun visors.

@L.C. Bruce's inventions, designs, and experiments have contributed greatly to our replica community and to original owners of the Porsche 356. His constant and continual inability to be satisfied with what has already been done has led to many discoveries. His manometer testing alone proved valuable to many on this site:

https://www.speedsterowners.co...ntake-manometer-test

https://www.speedsterowners.co...nometer-test-results

He also did extensive testing on the best place for an oil temperature sending unit:

https://www.speedsterowners.co...6#456026929181476436

And there have been others tests.

Just because some are happy following all of the other lemmings, Bruce isn't. If there is a question that needs answering, he answers it with facts, not guesses. You wanted to increase air flow so you hacked out the entire panel under you grill and that works for you. Bruce doesn't want to hack out the entire grill he wants to know exactly how much to take out while leaving as much of intact as he can and still improve air flow. That's an answer many of us would like to see. And that takes testing. Testing not everyone on this site wants to do but would like to benefit from his research.

I like your car, it's cool on many levels, but lately your attitude toward Bruce has been abhorrent and unnecessary.

Ha Ha Ha !!!!  Bio didn't work , clogs easy,,, I had said that , but it was for free ,,,, Old Bruceeeee got what he deserved when got """ SNIPPY and RUDE """ with me . I call em how I see em ! I give it when you deserve it . That's how real men handle things , they don't whimper into a little ball and cry themselves to sleep at the home for geezers , now get over it ! You need to lighten up .

Good Day Old Bean , I have better things do !  like another 3 cars and another Panhead to finish .

And thank you for the help and advice you gave me when I needed it .

Nice car Bruce . Glad to see it wasn't a drug induced delusion .

L.C., we've seen your type come and go on this forum.

There's a place for levity, some of us can't write anything that isn't funny but your sense of humor...it's lacking taste and class and you're the one that needs to lighten-up

We'll see how long you last, I'd give it a couple months until you've written and shown us every awesome thing you've ever done, which of course, will be so much better than what any of the rest of us could do.

...and in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make...
