Look on the bright side-you're driving a water-tight speedster with roll-up windows.

I ran through some snow and ice in Portland last year transports all over woke up next morning and the windshield was cracked. I have to keep reminding myself that this is like driving an old car ... many surprises come you way at times. My wife was and is wondering at times if I lost it somewhere... my brain that is
Sweet ride Bob!!
Thanks, Julio.
It was an almost two year build, but the car is worth it.
Awesome dream car!
Bob, have you had a chance to stretch it out yet?
What wheels are you leaning towards?
Thanks, Bill
We've had an early Spring up here, so yes, the car has been stretched. With 290 hp, it stretches nicely
I'm still looking at various wheels. I really want to get something that is vintage correct for the 356; however, with 911 underpinnings, I am limited. Wide Fives would be my first choice, but that won't work.
I have been looking at replica Jaguar racing wheels from the 1950s, but we will see.

Right now, I just want to drive it and get used to it.
Bob, Image wheels are nice, but they're heavy suckers. Henry had a set that a customer had ordered for his new IM and when I picked it up I was surprised at how much it weighed.
Very well made, though.
Well, Ron. Any recommendations? Seriously.
I don't suppose that a (cough...) decent set of (cough....) original Fuchs 5-spokes could be considered ? They're wicked-light!
Its not like there are a bunch of other Speedsters kicking around your neighborhood, ya know?
Bob, I think Ron is right, I have 16inch that were polished and restored, 6inch front 7 inch rear... on the other hand the Boyd coddington wheels are also very nice
(FYI, 325$ Can, to fully restore per wheel. plus wheel cost) Ray
Bob, you could also look at the rudge replicas like Joe on his new build, they are available in brushed aluminum.
Thanks, guys. I've been looking a lot, but I'm not ready to pull the trigger just yet.
It all depends on the width (6" front and 8" rear) the offset (52ET), the size (16") and the cost.
I'm still getting used to the car right now.
Bob, I'd wait until our dollar climbed out of the cellar......on second thought that could take a while.
My all-time favorite Porsche bolt pattern wheel is the aluminum spare. Did that wheel ever come in a 16" size?
Bob, with the 'giddy-up & grunt' of 290hp on tap I would think that the actual wheel weight, especially on a pleasure cruising machine, is a totally insignificant factor...I simply can't imagine that potential hp ever being realized on a street machine!

Well, Carl, I hope to find out if it can...

Ron: I think they were only in 15, and I need 16"
Rick Davis has those wheels on his IM 'D'.
Not sure if Marty had them made in 15inch but if they can be made in 15 they can be made in 16 but I am sure they are not light on the pocket book
Hey Bob, look at these..

You should find out how much to have them increased in size
On Samba it seems there is a long term seller ... http://www.thesamba.com/vw/cla.../detail.php?id=62083
Here are the part numbers for 16"
52 ET can someone shed light on this nomenclature
You can't go wrong with a set of 5 spoke Fuchs. And the resale value continues to climb...I have three sets...I like to change my shoes every now and then. Black, full polished and a set that I want to do something different with.
CARETECH-IM - That means a 52mm positive offset, or that the backside of the center of the wheel is 52mm from the centerline of the wheel toward the outside of the car.
Bill I know you get to drive all year round so you might get use of 3 pairs of shoes but for us north of the 49th, we barely get 6 months so the soles can dry out before we would use them Ray
Thanks for that info Lane... Is anyone familiar with Braid reproduction Fuchs from Europe. The reproduction looks pretty good. Just saying. Ray
That deep dish Fuch replica looks awesome!
Bob, look!
I would love those on the Coupe but if that price is per wheel it ain't gonna happen. Sigh...
Bob, I talked to Ray who works with Chris at alloy replicas. The O design wheel is designed for outlaw cars and could be made in 16 inch sizes. He just made it looked more finished with the deatiled lips around the wholes like a C wheel. 13 holes instead of 16 too.
Fuchs are they way to go, light, available and affordable...
Thanks for all the ideas, guys. It ain't easy choosing wheels.
But, all these suggestions are fantastic. Whatever I choose will have to be powder coated to match the car, as nice as chrome wheels are. Thankfully, most makers offer that option.
Bob, The wheels I posted are not chrome. That is just how good the quality of the aluminum is. They can be brushed and then clearcoated. If you want something that's powder coated stick to a steel wheel and save a bunch of $$$$
Come on, Bob; just open up the wallet a weeeeeeeeee bit more and I'm sure Henry can have some custom hubs machined for wide 5....
Al -You guys love to spend my money...
Marty - I would have sworn those wheels were chrome. Amazing finish.
I don't know what you're saying, Bob, but you know your car would be perfect with those fancy Technomagnesio's that Ted runs. You know you want to...
Yes, Al, my dear friend, those Technomagnesios are my favourite wheel.
Hey, do I still owe you a beer?
Lane wrote: "I would love those on the Coupe but if that price is per wheel it ain't gonna happen. "
Screw the wheels, just give me the coupe.
I'm waiting for some A or B coupe owner to decide they want to give me their car in their will. They're out there, and the owners aren't getting any younger........
I think it might be my turn to buy next time, but who knows. We'll figure it out ....
