Not Vario-ram, Stan. I think that was a year or two after this engine (1995).
Although, the fifteen additional horsepower would be nice, to keep up with Marty.

Regardless: very, very cool.
Nice Bob, I like the matching green spokes on your steering wheel, bespoked for sure
Bob, you might need a new pair of driving shoes with LEAD in them to be able to stop that monster thing. Ray
Hadn't checked out this thread in a while; Bob, that thing's gonna be a monster! I should go down there 1 day and see how it's going (I live 3 or 4 miles from the Intermeccanica shop)
Henry's going to need a very big shoe horn.....
Damn, that thing is going to fly!
Well, Ron, he's done it before...a couple of times.
Here's a nice example:

The main issue has been finding room for the exhaust, but I've had some great suggestions by my good friends here.
Just a little update for the legion of adoring fans following this build.
Henry says the engine has been stripped of all non-essential parts (air conditioning, etc.), and that the harness has been modified for our purposes. First of next week all ignition components, as well as suggested engine seals, will be replaced. He had a Porsche technician go over the engine and recommend what seals should be replaced while it's out of the car.
After this, the custom flywheel and alloy sports clutch will be installed followed by the transaxle, and a good cleaning up will be done.
He plans to have the engine fitted next week.
There is joy in Mudville tonight.
Love it Bob.
Thanks, Marty
I sometimes wonder what I've done here...
No really Bob, think about it. Do you know how many people are envoius of what you are doing? Even the Porshephiles would love to have 911 wrapped in 356 skin. But, many couldn't face their snobbish friends in the face because its wrapped in glass.
Looks good Bob, wondering is normal, especially after the cheque is signed and the delivery is done. How does the song go, "regrets I've had a few" in the end Sinatra says "I did it my way" Ray
There is joy in Mudville tonight.
Another home run for Casey Henry.
x2 what Marty said.
You wonder 'what you have done?.
Well, Bob, you and Henry have set the bar so high that's it's now unattainable and far, far, beyond mere envy
What ever the rest of us have done, or possibly will do, is bound to fall short. I hope someday to see (and drool over) this historic benchmark for myself.
Thanks, guys. I guess there are some doubts in any build, whether you do it yourself (I envy guys on here who can do that), or have someone else do it.
I know I'll enjoy driving this thing and get a lot of years of pleasure out of it. And Henry's quality is about the best around.
Carl - I'll be at Carlisle next year, so hope to see you there! And you can try out the passenger seat...
Bob!
Steady progress, I see. More to add to my other project. Do "Henry's elves" expect to have it done for the IM BBQ or is this scheduled for later?
I mentioned your project to some of the people in my local 356 club and there was real interest - enough that I would like to provide them with the Flickr address for them to see it, too. Because of the dimentioned photos I did, there has been a lot of interest in Mandy's and Gary's (flatfourfan) Pre-A builds, too. Everyone was surprised at where you guys all live and where the builds are happening and especially at the caliber of build and workmanship. There is a lot more interest amongst the 356 crowd in our cars than you might think. 9-series drivers look askance at everything not 9-series but the 356 guys are often more like us than not.
gn
Yes, Gordon. In time for the IM tour BBQ in mid-September. Driving around in the B.C. scenery should be a great time.
Bob have a look at the KG post and look at the 3.6 engine detail, quite nice. Ray
Just a little update on the IM6 build. We are going with a Steve Wong chip.
http://www.911chips.com/993chips.html
As we are using a 915 transmission, a lightened flywheel from Patrick Motorsport, and a factory aluminum sport clutch, this chip will remove any inconsistencies in how it drives, plus add 16-18 horsepower.
Henry now tells me we can use the factory 993 heat exchangers (heat is good up here in the north), and he will be fabricating a special exhaust to give either a single or dual center exit.
Bob, I hope you have heated seats and heat I find with those two I can go nearly into december and drive with the top down.... did I mention I wear a coat and hat on those days... Ray
Yeah, I finally decided to go for heated seats, plus there's a plug in thingy where you can plug in an electric blanket to keep the passenger warm.
I think Musbjim? got me thinking about adding that.
Maybe I'll order a set of snow tires and drive it all winter...
I never thought I'd say this but I wish my IM had a heated steering wheel.
I have seat heaters and lots of warm jackets, vests, etc., but even when I wear expensive, heavy gloves my hands still get really cold when driving, with the top down, in late Autumn or early Spring.
Maybe it's time to buy a pair of heated gloves.
Bob, if you lived out on the West coast you really could drive your new speedster all year and not even have to worry about snow tires.
I'm sure Marty could find you some heated gloves.
Ron and Bob Good idea, I now have real heat with a water boxer, actually, in reality my cooling fluid is non-water in the boxer but I will have to keep my comments on the heat till I drive it this fall but gloves might be good. I had my mother, ninety, knit me a few berets for top down driving. Keeps the block from being cold.
Henry just posted a few shots of the engine transaxle combination. He is waiting for an oil line fitting in order to test the engine.

That thing is so badass.
Hey Bob, I see your old IM is sold. Any idea where its new home is?
That thing is so badass.
'badass'. Hmm, I've been looking for a unique name to put on my licence plate.
I wonder if the bureaucrats would allow that?
How about "6 APEEL"?

Bob, you should see the rejected requested plates on the provinces site, you have to pass the PCorrect police. Better to get another language that is foreign and hope the left wingers don't pull it. Actually they have quadrupled the price of the custom plates.
Remember they reject a lot of the plates as too racy and for this forum that would be an insult.
Look at this .. http://www.thestar.com/news/gt...ont_let_you_see.html
You could try BADA55, but they might catch on to you.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I checked the site Ray posted above (actually, before he posted it) and they are pretty sticky about what they will allow to be on plates.
Legibility is a big one, plus there is no tolerance for anything to do with sex, violence, religion or any suggestion of anything slightly in bad taste.
Anyway, I'll come up with something. The one I wanted is apparently already taken.
IM6 Update
Motor is in; wheels are on. Exhaust to be done next week. There's actually more room in the engine compartment than what I thought there would be.
Coming along nicely!
Bob--that is just outageous. Delicious!!
You are going to have quite some ride---congrats.
Thanks, Jack. I'll really have to watch my right foot, to be sure.
Bob... your IM ride is a masterpiece !
