It cost $366.90, plus $20.75 to have 'Gene Berg' changed to 'Porsche'. I figure with this 'lock in reverse' shifter, an alarm, the 'Club' and a secret fuel pump switch, I may not get the car swiped. But, if they want it they'll get it, but at least I won't be making it easy for them. I don't know about you guys, but even with theft insurance coverage I'd still lose a bundle on this car is someone ripped it off.

You mount the base on(two bolts, like a stock shifter), then slide the top part on and secure it with an allen key. Now, does this mean that anyone with the correct allen key can take your shifter apart and...when I don't know what...would they be able to put it into gear? I doubt that they could even do that because without the key the shifter mechanism would still be locked in reverse. I noticed that Berg didn't supply me with an allen key, so I'm going to have to dig through my pile of allen keys to find the correct size.
Because the two bolts are inside the case you can't unbolt the shifter. You have to use the allen key to slide off the top part of the shifter. (am I repeating myself?) I'll know more when I try and mount it in the near future.

It's a 60% shifter. With such a short shifter (9 1/2") and the 60% reduction the shifting action is a bit notchy and very short. I wanted the short shaft because the seating position is so low in a 356 replica. I'd like to try a GB with a 40% reduction, and a longer shaft, to compare the difference.

I didn't like the handle (at first) either, but after shifting with it I love it. Handle fits right in your hand. I really don't care if it looks authentic or not. I've got 911 wheels and a 911 cooling fan shroud, so what the heck....
