Some of you know I only get my son for a few weeks every year. This year, I decided it was time for a little father-son road trip. In addition to getting some Dad time, he got to ask the kinds of questions he wouldn't want to ask with other people around, plus he got to have a little time joyriding in the Hoopty. The last time he saw that thing, it was in a stage of construction something akin to ... well, a shop-class project.
He had more fun tooling around in that thing than the law allows, but was still too short to touch the pedals. We did run all of our man-about-town stuff with it -- like the Air and Space Museum, crab shack eateries and visits to Lincoln-related museums.
More to the point here ... He met Kelly Frazer, Stan Galat and Terry Metz also. We went to Kelly's place for a social visit and some barbecue before we left Baltimore for the grandparents' house in St. Louis (in the much-less-fun-but-Mom-approved '06 Golf). On the way there, we planned a visit to Tremont, Il., to see Stan, and Terry was minutes away from where my folks live in St. Louis.
The photos are a bit tardy, but still illustrate to me the importance of maintaining good relationships with people in this hobby across the country. My son was continually impressed with the quality of the friends I keep, and since I don't get to see him all that much, it was all the more important to me that he know his Dad's friends are people of good character.
Kelly, Stan and Terry, thanks for helping me make a good impression on the lad this year.
