I recently attended the North meets South Porsche show. I saw this device shown in the photo in a early 356. I looked for the owner but never found him/her. I wonder if anyone has an idea what it is or does?

Looks like a coffee press. Take the top and the plunger out, add grounds and hot water, press to strain and pour. In this case, plug it into your car and keep it hot, too.

Congratulations , You have found something that even stumped me.

I really wanted to know. I can usually figure out things like this but, this is a early Porsche. I could only think about coffee machines but I don't think they were made in the fifty's. I tried to send a picture to the 356 site but they don't except photo's.

I can't believe we don't have an answer for this one yet.

Doesn't really make sense, though, if the Germans never bothered to put cupholders in their hoopties.
(Although I'm pretty sure Joe Soltis could make one out of carbon fiber and it'd go nicely with the TT interior theme he's got going ...)

How about a 6 volt coffee percolator? The grounds sit in that top "basket," the cup is on the very top and the water (a single cup's worth at a time maybe) filter's through it. Perfect for watching the races at the Ring, or a quick stop at one of the "turn-outs" on an Alpine road.

You know those Europeans and their "Holidays." Keep in mind that they strapped baskets and suitcases onto the OUTSIDE of their cars . . .

It's an Exhaust Gas Analyzer for Speedster Meets. Take an exhaust sample in the cup on top and plug it into the dash. If the unit glows green, it is surely an original Porsche 356. If it glows red, it is a replica... ;^)
