Nameplate

I am looking to buy a front "Porsche" nameplate and possibly side "Roadster" nameplates for my roadster. Does anyone have suggestions as to the best place to buy these?

If there are not holes in the front of your car--are they fairly easy to drill and mount?

I think I bought an extra Porsche script just recently..its the 10 inch size. Interested? Bought it from Tweeks...knock $10 off their price and add the shipping and its yours...

Some one told me the best way is to cut off the nibs and use double sided tape that you can purchase at a auto paint store. True or False.

Porsche did not make a "Roadster" side script. Intermeccanica installs that particular lettering on their Convertable D replication. If you have one of their cars you might try getting ahold of Henry when he returns from the Carlise show.

Try, PARTS OBSOLETE - www.356shop.com - no ROADSTER lettering as Dale said above, but they have all the badges and insignia.

I used the sticky stuff when I mounted the 'Carrera' on my 911 and it is holding on (up) fine...I don't see why it couldn't be used on the brass lettering on the front of our cars provided the hardware store variety product isn't too thick... Be mindful of placement as there is a slight curve on the car to reckon with...

The tape is used on new cars because you don't have to worry about rust around the mounting holes -- and it is fast and cheap. Since our fiberglass "tubs" don't rust whats the beef with using the mounting tabs? Cutting the sticky tape would be a tedious effort plus they would be easy for someone to rip off.

The problem I found using the "pins" on the back of the script was the length of the pins was not long enough to penetrate through the body. I used some very fine brass tube on the pins to lengthen them. Additionally, the front PORSCHE script has compound curves making drilling the holes for the pins and getting the angles for the holes nearly impossible. Using a tape might be the easiest way. Go to an automotive body supply shop. They have a tape especially made for attaching emblems/other trim. Once the tape has some dwell time, no one will be able to remove it with out some heat or damage.

I've drilled the holes, put a dab of epoxy on the pins, then shove em in....and they stay, and it can't be seen.

The method Gary described is the way to do it. Pre-curving the nose badge very slowly and then "spotting" the holes before you drill is tricky but do-able. To hold the badge in place while the epoxy dries, some painter's masking tape works great.

Another method is to get a rasp bit for your drill. Use it to wear down the fiberglass on the inside of the body (or hood) around where the pin holes are located until the 'glass is thin enough to use the mounting tabs. This way you can remove the script if you need to later on.
