Two years ago the rear seal on the master cylinder let go and dumped fluid all over the floor pan. I replaced the cylinder and cleaned the top and bottom of the pan. Obviously the fluid got under the paint  and undercoating and when I was recently working under the car I found that the undercoating was peeling off and there was surface rust on the pan-nothing structural. I spent a few hours with a putty knife and wire brush and primed it. Today the paint was cured so I applied spray on undercoating. Of course the valve kept jamming so it was messy. It's no fun laying on  your back under jack stands. I need a lift! What we do for the madness-enough ranting.

I feel your pain, Joel.  My car has been on jack stands for  almost 3 months now.  As soon as you crawl under it to do something you realize you need one more thing.  And I don't like the creeper deal either, there is always a wrench  or  extension cord that jams up your wheels.  I think it will finally be on all fours tomorrow....until the next time.

I also had the master cylinder challenge last year.  That stuff is awful and hard to get rid of when it gets between things and starts bubbling the painted stuff.  You can use Brake Kleen , but that stuff is nasty too in a closed area.

Swing axle - Ugh!  I remember having similar problems and ended up using some RTV Blue just to hold the o-rings in place so they didn't slip around and get caught when assembling everything.

Like Alan, I ALWAYS did a thin film of Blue RTV (any color is OK, Copper is overkill) on both sides of those thin paper gaskets and assembled everything.  Learned all this the hard way.
