Need a distributer.

Need a distribuyer, mine shelled out. What I need looks just like a VW dist with the last 3 numbers of the part number being 031 or 050..

I'll be out of town until Tuesday. I'll check at the shop. There may be a good 009 there unless I or someone else traded it out. If it's there I'll write P-Mail.

Thanks Jim, but the 009 won't do the trick. I have a 912 motor and it requires up to 32 degrees of advance. The 009 only does 22 degrees and the advance curve is also off which makes the 912 idle too high.

The 050 is a popular replacement for the cheap 009 --- it is no longer made and isn't stocked anywhere. You do see used ones on ebay for $150 or so. Why not rebuild your old one? Check out glenn-ring.com/ there are a couple writeup there including one from Hot VW magazine.

I thought about that but the real thin plastic sheet that is below the weights is bad. Is there a place to get one?

Do you have the rest of the part number?
It should be something like X XXX XXX 050 (fill in the X's).
I might be able to locate one via an internal contact at work (no promises, but I'll have a go if you want me to).
Apart from the cheap power tools, working for Bosch does seem to have some advantages.

Hey Jim! Hows the car coming? I got the instructions for the linkage. Where can I fax them? The part # is 0231 129 050 . The original part # is 0231 129 031.

Took the dist apart and found that somewhere along the line someone put the condensor clamp on with a screw that was too long. It hit the spring retainers and bent them over. I cleaned and straitened everything and put the proper screw in and all is well.

This dist retails at $700 and cost is $450 or so. Can be had off ebay for $150. I might add that this part number is 0231 129 031. It is for the 356/912 motor. So, if you have a couple of these laying around, don't toss them as scrap... Almost spent $150 for nothing.
