need advce, switched to smaller mains and it runs terrible now..

weber 44s, i had my mechanic switch 180s to 160s, watched him and it wasnt too hard. he didnt fiddle with any of the carbs adjustments,
i put in 150s and it runs ragged. have the jets out now and they look fine.
do i need to do anything else besides switch jets. might put the 160s back in to see if they work ok.

Bob....By all means, put the 160s back in.....If it ran OK with them before. You just leaned the engine out too much.....Running too lean for too long can cause engine damage. I use IDF 44s on a 1915cc engine and I use 160 mains.....

i have 3 sets of jets before me, 150, 160, 180.
the 160 hole is smaller than the 180
but i swear the 150 hole looks bigger than the 180 and its marked 1.5
im confused, bought them from CB so should be good

Bob, I am running 155s from Mid America. Been working pretty well. I did have the Jet Drs. installed along with the K&N Grease for filters. I think my mechanic did do a little tuning as well. I have only ran less than 100 miles because its been cold. I'll keep you posted.

If your 44s are stock, they have 36mm venturis.
In our neck of the woods I found that 155 mains are right about perfect.

Good people, fair prices and excellent quality, especially their jets.
When you say the car is running ragged, at what rpm? The mains don't kick in until 2800-3000 rpm. If it's lower than that you probably dropped something down the throat of one of the carbs or some junk found it's way into one of your idle jets.

im going to put the 160s back in tomorrow and see if its back to running good. i put a rag into each orifice while i changed them so i dont think anything got into the carbs,
car has 2 fuel filters.

... but the crud doesn't usually come from the fuel, it comes from the dirt that falls between your velocity stacks.
