Well, EXCUSE ME, but I gotta have sumthin' to say here, even if we have already hit 20 and counting.

Re: "If I give into the pressure you guys are putting on me  . . ."

Lane: this is not a choice.  As I explained to you before, the Carlisle weekend is a Speedster event, not a BMW event, so you drive the Speedster -- got it??  And keep your hands off the Weber innards between now and then.  You drive the Bimmer, and you'll have to go park w/ them.  Just sayin' . . .

I had a rough year last year Jack.  Due to my own stupidity, I put the blue tape too far down on my windshield which caused my wipers to strip out.  So there I was in the mountains in one of the worst rains of my life with no wipers, trucks bearing down on me and no shoulder to pull off on.  I was really shook up.

Then, on Saturday, my transmission went belly up and, thanks to Carey and Henry, I was able to get Natalie and myself home.

I'm not 100% sure that I'm coming this year, but, if I do, I plan to take my Escape.

IF the weather looks great that weekend, I may try to find a route that avoids the turnpike and take the long way there.  I don't want to do I-76 in bad weather again.

I will absolutely be there, but I got caught in some downpours on the way up and found that my new windshield installation (my fault) had more leaks than Wiki, and I got pretty fed up with that aspect.  I've driven the Speedster to Carlisle 8 times and to the mountains 6 (I think) times, so I am due a break.  that said, I know I'd regret not having it up there, unless we have another 2008.  It may be a last minute decision based on weather prognostications.

My first trip to Carlisle ('07??): drove the Mazda 'cause I did not have my Speedster yet (it came the following June)

My last trip to Carlisle ('14): drove the Mazda 'cause I had not solved MY carb problem yet, and the car was not driveable.

Get there any way you can, of course.

PS: And we know what Jack and Dave would do 'cause that is what they do: drive the Speedster.

I have flat-towed my Spyder with three different cars.

The Suby Legacy GT wagon with 165 hp was OK, had to put it in 4th when pulling those long PA grades.

Then a 2001.5 Passat Wagon with 190 hp V6, better, barely knew it was back there, it was a 5 speed Tiptronic. I don't remember it downshifting but it might have once or twice.

Now I'm rolling the Audi allroad, with a 4.2 V8 and 300 ponies. What, there's a car back there? Last year on the way to Carlisle there was an asshat in a Monte Carlo who kept cutting me off. You should have seen his face when I out-accelerated him going up a long grade to prevent him cutting me off yet again!

In college I loved having a tow bar for my '59 oval. Lane, if you find a source for a beck tow bar I would also love to pick one up.

So if you guys who live a distance from Carlisle tow there I want to know why? Seems if your car is mechanically sound there should be no problem???

Myself and three Cobra owning friends drove our Cobras from Seattle to Columbus, OH to a big Cobra event and back, a distance of 2,400 miles each way. We did this not once but three times in '04, '05' and '06. In '06 my wife and our friend Andy's wife went with us in the cars. And a Cobra is not the most ergonomically friendly vehicle, like driving a 2,000lb. go-kart on steroids...lol.

Y'all sound like wusses...

Just kidding I would probably trailer or tow also now. I have had my fun on the open road in an open sports car...leave the long distance trips to the younger crowd...lol

I sold my trailer that I used to bring my VS to Carlisle twice.  I may or may not drive it if I get it right in time. (we might be on vacation after the event, so I'm still not sure) I still would like to have the option to flat tow locally, to mechanic etc.

What would be the best source for a tow bar for my VS link pin front end and would my stock front anti-sway bar be a problem?

Sorry for the hijack, but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of rules on this thread, and since someone else brought it up.....jus' sayin'
