Enough small talk.............somebody push this over the edge!!
You just did! Somebody break out the champagne.
Is this a new record, Theron? Do we win a prize?
I think (who cares) that once the subject/ topic has been fixed. The tread is dead.
No soup for you!
Well, EXCUSE ME, but I gotta have sumthin' to say here, even if we have already hit 20 and counting.
Re: "If I give into the pressure you guys are putting on me . . ."
Lane: this is not a choice. As I explained to you before, the Carlisle weekend is a Speedster event, not a BMW event, so you drive the Speedster -- got it?? And keep your hands off the Weber innards between now and then. You drive the Bimmer, and you'll have to go park w/ them. Just sayin' . . .
I think (who cares) that once the subject/ topic has been fixed. The tread is dead.
No soup for you!
But ARE they REALLY fixed. The jury is still out.
Oh yes, the car is fixed and running well. As for Carlisle, I registered the BMW but would park in the general area behind the Speedsters. Heck, y'all didn't complain when Max brought his Audi for several years.
Yeah, but that was, well....Max.
and you are a shameless thread hussey........
I don't know about this trend of leaving the Speedster home and driving the daily driver to Carlisle. What are the reasons for that??
Then, on Saturday, my transmission went belly up and, thanks to Carey and Henry, I was able to get Natalie and myself home.
I'm not 100% sure that I'm coming this year, but, if I do, I plan to take my Escape.
IF the weather looks great that weekend, I may try to find a route that avoids the turnpike and take the long way there. I don't want to do I-76 in bad weather again.
I will absolutely be there, but I got caught in some downpours on the way up and found that my new windshield installation (my fault) had more leaks than Wiki, and I got pretty fed up with that aspect. I've driven the Speedster to Carlisle 8 times and to the mountains 6 (I think) times, so I am due a break. that said, I know I'd regret not having it up there, unless we have another 2008. It may be a last minute decision based on weather prognostications.
Dialog me I will resolve the leak issues
You guys could save yourself the time & effort of a trip by sitting in your Speedsters while parked in the garage (out of the weather) and just watch a video of Speedsters Meets Spyders 2015 @ Carlisle!
I wonder what Jack Crosby (driving from Arkansas) or David Stroud (driving from Canada) would do?
Tom, Lane--I sure understand that. I do want to see you two at Carlisle so get there any way you can!!
Yup, I agree with Jack.
My first trip to Carlisle ('07??): drove the Mazda 'cause I did not have my Speedster yet (it came the following June)
My last trip to Carlisle ('14): drove the Mazda 'cause I had not solved MY carb problem yet, and the car was not driveable.
Get there any way you can, of course.
PS: And we know what Jack and Dave would do 'cause that is what they do: drive the Speedster.
I wonder what Jack Crosby (driving from Arkansas) or David Stroud (driving from Canada) would do?
Drive the bugger...via Key West....again x 3 this time...
Not 100% certain I will be making it this year even though this would be year number 11 for me and if I do what I will be driving. The event is on my calendar, but my spring commitments are pretty heavy. Right now, I am taking it a day at a time and will see what happens.

Lane, if you want a break from high-miling the Speedy, why not flat-tow? You could drag it to my house, leave the two vehicle in my garage and drive the last two hours to Carlisle in the red car.
And, you could eat beef jerkie and call yourself "Big Joe, Trucker"!
'course I'd have to leave Pam the BMW and take her SUV as a tow vehicle. Hmmm... Haven't flat-towed anything since 1978.
It's like riding a bike.
And, you could eat beef jerkie and call yourself "Big Joe, Trucker"!
My name is Stan, not Joe.
Lane - flat towing gives you best of both worlds! Distance ride in comfort with car in tow, then unleash bad-boy Speedster for the show!
Lane, I use to go through the trouble of loading a speester on a trailer or using a wide car dolly. Now days, I take 10 minutes to hook up my trusty VW tow bar...and away I go at warp speed like it's not even back there!
Lane..if I drive my Speedster to Key West, we could hook up somewhere on 95 Northbound and I could tow you in your Speedster to Carlisle. You'd save a lot of $$$ on gas but you'd have to find your way home. Would that work ?
You'd tow my Speedster with your Speedster?
Thanks, but I will be taking a more inland route to hook up with the SE caravan. It's become a tradition to visit some folks along the way. Speaking of which, are you going to join up with us in Christiansburg?
Lane, I'm doing the flat tow this year as well, I found a good used bar. I just need to get it modified to fit the Speedy. NC to PA her we come.

Lane, Flat towing IS very easy to adapt to.... I've built 3 tow bars (two for me and one for a friend) and can state that my little '09 Tacoma never felt it at all if driven reasonably.... Just remember, you cannot back up with out some help or disconnecting the towed vehicle.....
We'll see. I'd have to get and adapt a tow bar. Source recommendations? Remember, things are a bit different up front on a Beck when compared to a pan-based Speedster.
I have flat-towed my Spyder with three different cars.
The Suby Legacy GT wagon with 165 hp was OK, had to put it in 4th when pulling those long PA grades.
Then a 2001.5 Passat Wagon with 190 hp V6, better, barely knew it was back there, it was a 5 speed Tiptronic. I don't remember it downshifting but it might have once or twice.
Now I'm rolling the Audi allroad, with a 4.2 V8 and 300 ponies. What, there's a car back there? Last year on the way to Carlisle there was an asshat in a Monte Carlo who kept cutting me off. You should have seen his face when I out-accelerated him going up a long grade to prevent him cutting me off yet again!
Lane, call Carey, he knows what you need. Flat-towing is easy, ask Leon and Lenny and me. Just leave yourself extra braking room. I have about two-thousand miles of towing my Spyder, Lenny and Leon WAY more than that.
I'm sure the BMW (230hp) could handle it but the owner's manual specifically discourages towing and there's know way to attach a tow hitch anyway. Pam's Saturn Vue (>250hp) would do fine, I am sure.
We'll see. I'd have to get and adapt a tow bar. Source recommendations? Remember, things are a bit different up front on a Beck when compared to a pan-based Speedster.
In college I loved having a tow bar for my '59 oval. Lane, if you find a source for a beck tow bar I would also love to pick one up.

So if you guys who live a distance from Carlisle tow there I want to know why? Seems if your car is mechanically sound there should be no problem???
Myself and three Cobra owning friends drove our Cobras from Seattle to Columbus, OH to a big Cobra event and back, a distance of 2,400 miles each way. We did this not once but three times in '04, '05' and '06. In '06 my wife and our friend Andy's wife went with us in the cars. And a Cobra is not the most ergonomically friendly vehicle, like driving a 2,000lb. go-kart on steroids...lol.
Y'all sound like wusses...
Just kidding I would probably trailer or tow also now. I have had my fun on the open road in an open sports car...leave the long distance trips to the younger crowd...lol
In my case it's a bit of "Been there. Done that - 8 times." The novelty is pretty much gone so there's little to mask the hassles.
I to have a Beck and would like some info on tow bars for it.
I sold my trailer that I used to bring my VS to Carlisle twice. I may or may not drive it if I get it right in time. (we might be on vacation after the event, so I'm still not sure) I still would like to have the option to flat tow locally, to mechanic etc.
What would be the best source for a tow bar for my VS link pin front end and would my stock front anti-sway bar be a problem?
Sorry for the hijack, but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of rules on this thread, and since someone else brought it up.....jus' sayin'
i think this is the post that is open to hi jacking
