Hey Al,i should have clarified more, its a "vintage speedster" kirk built it.

brand new today would be around 27-28k$.

from my gathering info on this site and current asking/selling price on ebay/craigslist/samba..etc

i see that a reasonable price is 22-23k?

or am I off, and not considering other factors that i am not aware of?

i see it as a new car with a few test drives on it.

Bob,

its a bit of both,

someone I know is considering selling,

i am in the market to purchase, just cant seem to pull the trigger as the color of the car is not my first choice, but i may, soon.

from what i gather, i will pass along to him what the "fair" price should be.

try melting the snow like my buddy...oh wait, your a feet under right?

As we watch the snow outside here (again) in Boston I was reminiscing about our teenage days of bumper skiing. Back then it was fun and it got you around town. You ran up behind a car, grabbed the underside of the bumper and you were off. Boots with flat soles worked best. When you got good at it you could carry a six pack with your extra fingers. It got really fun when the drived gunned it and the car spun out. Kids went flying every which way.

Looking for photos on google I found this. Thinking about how to adapt it for Carlisle.

I knew what you were talking about with the "blanket"-- I'm just giving you a hard time. This winter has been really long, cold, and snowy here in the Midwest. I just got back from Mexico, but I'm thinking about just getting on the plane again and not coming back until spring. Want to buy a house?

As far as the car... It's new for all practical purposes. >100 mi means it hasn't ever been warm, and it's still got all the bugs in it. The seller is going to take about a $5000 bath, whether it's got 50 or 2050 miles on it. If I was in the market to buy, I'd probably just pass... unless it was exactly what I was after. Vintage builds a car in a matter of weeks, and it's not really fit to drive right now anyhow. Getting a car speced the way you want it is worth $5K unless you really like the color of this one. I'm thinking you are a CA guy, which is a good thing (when it comes time to have Vintage work out the bugs)-- if you buy new, you'll get more of the "customer lovin'" that Kirk is known for.

Good luck. Forewarned is forearmed.

Stan,

thanks for warning...

makes me look at it from another angle now that you say that.

your right, not exactly what i like/prefer, if i were building one.

what sorts "bugs" are usually associated with new builds? engine? body?electrical?

Would your take on this be any different, if i can talk my buddy in selling me the car for ...19k?

any/all comments appreciated!!!!

Guess one could argue that since it hasn't been registered despite 100 miles on odo, it's a new car. I'd find out from VS what the warranty still available is and is it transferable to you.  Is there an issue with registering it in your state? It's a custom hand built car with used, refurbed and new parts.  All would need tweaking and tightening during initial few thousand miles.  If you can get it to VS for these tweaks (and warranty extends to you) then no problem.  If you are out of range of VS (and aren't handy yourself) then it could get costly/difficult.  Teething bugs could be virtually anything.  Cars with a few thousand miles usually have these bugs worked out.  I personally wouldn't take advantage of a "buddy" to get the car cheap - friendship should have more value than saving a couple grand!
