Dear all,

 

I have a little problem to identify the maker of this Speedster.

Some pictures I have here, I can make more. I hope someone of you can help...

 

Of those I know the main differences are:

- the front window frame is chrome and square (not the round aluminium one I know)
(chrome could have been done later by an owner though) The hood is mounted by 4 clamps to the frame.

- the front hood has a damper to hold the hood up (like more modern cars do)

 

- the side rails of the doors are round, not square as the VS has

 

- the mounting plate of the front hood is mounted from top (see pic)

 

- the opener for the engine compartment is behind the passenger seat

 

- the overall quality of the body seems to be quiet good as all the gaps are very even and rather small (about 3mm)

 

I bought the car in Japan (but probably comes from US) and the base is a VW pan (118.... year 1967)

 

From the documents the car was built in 80s or 90s.

Dear Wolfgang, thank you for the hints... so I just take it as is. 

 

Front hood latch lloks like inetrmeccanica (pan version).... the window frame coukd indicate the manufacturer, as it is differnet to mst I know. It is square and has 4 snaps (normally only 2 if I am not mistaken).

It is not necessary to remove the windshield corner posts to replace the windshield.

 

Simply remove the two screws in the sides of the corner posts that hold the top windshield frame to the posts and slip the frame right up.  It should come out with little effort.  Once the frame is off just lift the windshield out of the bottom rubber gasket and that's it.  No messing around under the dash needed.

 

BEFORE YOU START MESSING WITH YOUR WINDSHIELD - do a search on here for as much windshield replacement info from either me or Dr. Clock as you can find.  There should be a couple of lengthy threads on how to do it right.

 

Do it right and the windshield will not crack.

 

Do it wrong and it'll crack either immediately or within the first week.  Believe it. 

Right.
But I thought the question was related to my window posts which are different as they do not have the screws as mentioned by you.
 
I noted that difference before as a hint, if someone knows this kind of window frame, it is rather unique and might help to find out who was the manufacturer of the whole hit. My window frame is also more square in form instead round.
