Some SOC'ers may know better (Syl).

There's some guys who do Porsche work and may do VW based work as well.  At Auto Sports Group at 2810 F Dorr Ave, Merryfield, VA 703 876 2811.

I suspect they'd be on the pricy side.  I bought some Brad Pen green oil from them and spoke to the manager last summer seemed like very knowledgeable air cooled folks.

Not sure if you are looking for repair/tune up or total rebuild.

For repair/tuneup (near Springfield/Ft Belvoir)-

Monk's VI Volks
7903 Hill Park Ct Ste 11
LortonVA 22079-1018

And for engine rebuilds a little further south -

German Motors
739 STEFANIGA RD

22556-6632, STAFFORD 22556-6632

Wayne Dittman (Owner)

540 752-5303

And for old VW parts (they do some repairs too)-
Buggy Man VW Parts
8906 Hooes Rd,
LortonVA, 22079
Tel: 703-690-1408.

Wayne Dittman built the stock motor in Dale (Schu) red MGTD and a big one for his CMC wide body Speedster project.  He's hard to get hold of on phone - he's old time builder doing builds after his main USPS job.  Monk (Virgin Islands) is long time local air cooled shop.  He's at all the VW BugOuts as is the BuggyMan (John?).

Just as  an update - Monk sends most all his engine work down to Wayne in Stafford so if you need engine work just go directly to Wayne. That being said I have not heard from Wayne in a while and hope he is well and still cranking out engines. He suffered a heart attack a while back. As Greg says he is hard to reach - just keep calling till you reach him - he never checks his voice mail - very old school guy.

Actually haven' bought the car yet. It will probably be a Beck with mild tuned CB or a 1915 Vintage Speedster. Just wanted someone to do my tune ups, valve adjustments, little upgrades, etc. Hope to be getting a sorted out car.

Hate to ask this but I'd be happy to buy lunch for anyone who has time for me to sit in their VS or Beck in the MD, DC,VA area. Just to be sure.  I'm a harmless 71 year old mostly retired psychologist.
