Please rant on the aesthetics of replacing bumpers with nerf bars. And who is the best supplier of these things?

You won't get a rant from me-I like the looks of a speedster with or without bumpers.
Here's just a few places that sell them:

Sierra Madre has them - says for replicas only (so maybe different than those for VWs - and about the same $).

There are a BUNCH of different designs; Straight, straight/angled, short curved, long curved, 3/4" diameter bars all the way up to about 2-1/2" dia. Even the CMC Californian model had several different nerf bar types over their years of tele-marketing hype.
Wade through some of the photos in the archives here and decide what you might like.
I like the "T" bars.
Rant, good choice of words for this list .....I prefer bumpers with overider bars but an outlaw can be nice with nerfs or with slim bumpers.
Nerfs are cool, esp'y so on an outlaw, or a body w/out trim. I was never very clear about how functional they end up being as an actual bumper (suspect hardly at all), but they make a statement, and I like the look, on the right car.
I only like them on widebody cars and I only like the Empi style, which is what you see on Vintage cars.
FYI. They are slightly modified by cutting off some of the bottom curve so they don't wrap way under the car.
I like the nerfs, I have the empi's on my car and as troy says they need to be trimmed. Here are pictures of the same car with Bumpers, without bumpers and with nerfs.
Only thing better than nerfs is checkers.
