Or are they called T Bars? I'm seriously considering a set like the ones on Dirks car (Sorry Dirk, I love your car so I'm stealing all the stuff you've done to it). Where can I get these in black, or do I have to buy them in chrome and paint them? And where do I buy them?

I figure if they don't work out I'll just steal Dirks other look and remove the Carrera trim, fill the holes and repaint my bumpers when I have them redo the decklid this winter.

"Nerf" bars are curved, as are the ones in your pictures.

There are at least three variations on shape and size that I know of. Check the pictures of Pearl and also Wild Bill Drayer's "Blackie" for two size/shape variations (I have the slender, "dainty" ones, and Bill has the Hefty, 20mph version).

Bill's nerfs:

(you may have to cut and paste to get it to work)

"T" bars are shaped like an angled "T", and were mostly popular on so-called "Cal-Look" bug sedans - you seldom see them on Speedsters, but they're out there.

Curved nerf bars have one huge advantage if your car is lowered. The bottom of these bars is the lowest point on the vehicle, by a small amount. The bottom of my bars are about 15% ground off from bottoming on my driveway, rain dips on local streets and the ocassional parking curb. My header exhaust remains untouched as does the body work front or back. Something to consider is you like your car low.

Great pic, and I see that you have nerf bar "body seals" - something that I seem to have zero luck in finding.  Where did you get your seals ?

Thanks

terry, david passed away earlier this year. but hose rubber mounts are from jps. Davids yellow tub was a jps

Terry:  sorry......I don't get on here as often as I used to.

For the nerf-to-body seal, I just used bumper mount seals for a 1952-1967 VW sedan, cut the lip off the back side and then mounted them to the bumper mount with clear silicon caulk to hold them in place after pushing them up against the body for a nice look.  Then I went around to the back side of the bumper mount and filled the void between the mount metal and the body with clear caulk and let it set up.  After 24 hours the extra caulk (invisible from the outside) keeps the bumper mounts from rattling while driving.
