So the interest is building and a few of us are already thinking about Carlisle '08, where "Speedsters Meet Spyders at Carlisle".

Hotel accomodations are being worked out and a few of us are thinking about things we might do to capitalize on past year experiences AND provide the 4-day weekend of a lifetime.

This coming year, the featured car(s) will be the Austin Healey Sprite/MG Midget, and the National Organizer is hoping for 600 of those little cars to appear (they're even smaller than a Spyder, if you can believe it!)

We're also contemplating a number of different things to keep you all interested for the weekend. Things like tours of local points of interest, cruises, the ever-popular Go-Kart races, and, of course, our nightly cruises to dinner and, God knows, we may even build another car right at the show!!! (although I haven't yet recovered from the LAST build!!)

OK, so here's our first request:

If you received the Carlisle email notices and updates last year, AND you still have the same email address, then you'll get the notices THIS year, too, so sit tight and we'll get something out after the Holidays.

If you never got those notices last year (probably because you live in the Outback of North America or somewhere Overseas) AND you would like to be included on the email list in the off-chance that you might (I say, might) attend, PLEASE shoot me an email with the following info to gnichols0414-at-charter.net and I'll include you:

your name
Email address
Town/City and State/Province/Territory (and country)
Your car (or, if you don't yet have one, what you would LIKE to have)

That's about it, for now.

Expect us to beat the West Coast Bushes to see if we can get a few folks from "way out there" to make the trek "Back East" to join us this coming year. Why should Hoss Hallstrand and Steve O'Brien, those intrepid Subytubers, have all the fun, anyway? Maybe we can finally get Angela and Steve to come to the fun, and wouldn't it be Uber-Kool to see Vince show up with his Ghia?? How many others from the West Coast would like to head Back East before the weather turns hot and muggy??

Come join us! We promise you'll have the best weekend of the Summer!

Gordon - I'm planning on coming out for Carlisle '08, so please include me on the e-mail list. I'll send a PM with the info you need.

Unless Angela is driving out and needs a right-seater (hint, hint!), I'm flying out to Carlisle this time around. So if anybody needs a co-pilot on a Carlisle cruise or caravan (and if you can put up with my Guamaniantics)...or as Cory would put it, my 'Pineappleheadedness'!!

If I was to drive my Speedy out there, I'd have to leave straight from the Paso Robles SOC meet!

Looking forward to meeting my East Coast SOC comrades!

Peace - Out!

Anybody who says they can't make the drive because their car isn't water-resistant enough is a weenie.
We'll take answers like, "I'm too old and I might not survive the trip." We'll accept, "The plane's more reliable." We'll even entertain, "I'm from California, and my home oxygen line won't make it past Paso Robles."
However, there will be no truck with an answer that sounds like you're afraid of a little water. Flying helmets for everyone!
So ...
EVERYBODY's coming, right?
(There you have it, Gordon. A complete list!)

Kelly, I don't know if our paths will cross yours very far from Carlisle or not. We met up with Cory for lunch last year somewhere in northern MD, followed by a short drive to Carlisle. We could certainly do the same with you. You might even want to hook up with him. I know I'll be meeting Hoss - probably the night before in Christiansburg, VA, and may have others along like Kevin Haskins, Leon Chupp, Tom Raymond, and whomever.

Any of the folks coming out I-40 could also meet up with us in VA. The final trek to Carlisle from there is an easy 5 or 6 hours (including the lunch stop, Hoopty test drive, etc.), if memory serves me. A goodly chunk of this was on the Blueridge Parkway at relatively low speed. Who else is coming from the VA area? How about GA and the Carolinas?
sorry - i have not been up to date on the location. It's just outside of NY this year?

http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=Allentown,+usa&ie=UTF8&ll=40.649387,-75.39917&spn=0.300076,1.7276&z=9&iwloc=addr&om=1

Nothing on the west coast? Driving 4500kms is just a bit much for me.
Jim, I'd suggest riding with Kelly from near where we live. He's about 20 minutes from BWI airport, and I'm six minutes away. I'll pick you up, we'll go back to Casa del Drake, he'll meet us there, and we'll leave to go.
BERT will probably go with me, so you'll need an alternative ... Sorry, but she's waaaay cuter. ;)
I plan on traveling via ground method from eastern Ohio, not yet in my Speedie, and would look forward to meeting with anyone from or coming through this area for the ride. I will be close to Pittsburg at one point and could pick up passenger(s) there or any place along the slab en route. I might even be convinced to jump into the co-pilot side and just enjoy the breeze.
Cory - Kelly;

In light of the fact that I would like to square my lodging for my visit to Carlisle, I may take your advice and land in BWI and hopefully hitch a ride with Kelly (if that option is available).

Anyway, if the offer still stands fo a p/u at the airport and then back to your place to meet up with Kelly, at least I won't need to make arrangements for a rental car. I saving my money NOW for all the fuel, beer and egg sammiches I'll probably be buying for my knucklehead SOC friends at Carlisle.

I could also use some recommendations on where I should arrange lodging.

Looking forward to this East Coast trip!!
Jim, done deal. If you can shoehorn that big'ole'head into it, my Golf's at your disposal for the duration.
Lodging? Check the thread for the Carlisle hotel stuff, but don't even think about staying anywhere but Casa y Bistro del Drake while you're in the Baltimore area.
Mi casa su casa.
How's my spelling?
Jim:

If it makes you feel any better about saving money, I can't eat the egg sammiches (egg allergy). But they DO offer this artery-blocking sausage, ham and cheese beauty with my name on it!!!

I've also heard a rumor that the Casa y Bistro de Drake offers up some pretty good food, so you should be in pretty good shape!

We're also working hard in the background to come up with some new Speedsters Meet Spyders sub-events that should have something for everyone: Foodies, Wine Connoisseurs, Motorheads, Go-Kart racers and Back-Road Navigators.

Speedsters Meet Spyders at Carlisle, 2008

It's gonna be one hell of a meet!!
