After a lot of research as well as feedback from several members on this site (thank you to those I imposed on) I decided to build rather than buy. I ordered a Subaru engine new build from Special Edition during the last days of Nov. Carey has been great and extraordinarily patient as I changed colors and added....and then subtracted specs and options for the car. Although I quickly blew up my budget.....I have no regrets. The car is being built and attached find some of the first pictures. I'm still "intending" to have the car delivered to Carlisle and then to drive back to Florida.....we'll see. I'll try to keep the pictures flowing as the car takes shape and update any interesting specifications/upgrades and ultimately provide feedback as an owner/driver.

that is a great looking sub-frame.
yup thats the way they should look, not all cobbeled togetaher with crap. Im kinda wishing I had found a body & done my own frame.possiably 1 day I will find a wide body at a deal&beable to fab a full tubular chassie & cage.so I can have some big wheels& what I want.
Congratulations and you will not be disappointed in your Beck. I purchased a used car last May from Special Edition and cannot be happier. Carey and Kevin are solid people and will answer every question no matter how mundane. Looking forward to seeing your subi powered Beck, I have thought about building a new one a few years down the road.
Welcome to the Madness!
Great News. Enjoy the process.

Gazi are you joining us in Carlisle?
Unfortunately, I can't make it because I have to speak at a conference.
It sucks.
Welcome to the madness and the Beck clan of the SOC. We're small in number, but vocal :-). Looking forward to meeting you at Carlisle and seeing your Suby build. Don't worry, Carey is pre-disastered from me on spec changes, before and after the sale from me. There's nothing you can throw at him that he can't handle. He really is awesome to deal with. You made a great choice.
It sounds like it will be an awesome car. I live on the MS Gulf coast in Gulfport MS and so do not see many (if any)Tub's. If you do drive back from Carlisle and come through I-10 I would love to get together for coffee, lunch, beer, whatever to see your new ride and talk shop.
Good luck on the build!
Roman
that sounds tempting......will be in touch
I am starting to see some sort of Florda version of Carlisle coming on....
Both Jim Anderson and I have "work in progress" CMC Speedsters near Destin FL. If we can get off our butts and finish ours we'd love to join caravan. I attended couple years when I lived in Wash DC - well worth even a 2k mile RT. Our trip would most likely be I10 to I95N or I85.
Might chicken out and flat tow - at least as far a DRClock's or Cory's place.

That's a great idea! Florida Panhandle has some beautiful drives on the beaches between Pensacola and Panama City and plenty of cool places to gather.
Spring and fall are not too crowded and the temps are milder as well.

EMAIL VINCE AND I THE SPEECH. WE WANT TO PROOF READ IT FOR U.
Well u r not going to do well on this panel. I assume you will be asking the particpants what kind of car u should buy.
Infiltrating social media.....I happen to be an expert at that.....
check out this pic
You've been infiltrated.....
It even fits for current events here on the West Coast....

TRahn, I echo Tom et al about Carey. The kind of service he provides is like the kind you would find in a 5 star hotel. Incredibly patient, always very nice, a great craftsman, and infinitely reliable. I will always buy from Carey, period.
He's building a 550 Spyder for me, and it looks great so far. I've also made 5 million changes, but he's always been great about it. I wonder if he will have any hair left when my car is done
At any rate, I am VERY excited for you! What an experience to see your car come together. And with Carey doing it and updating you with so many photos, you almost feel like you're there. A great experience, in every way!
Cheers,
Anand

Finally made it back to sunny Florida having visited Carey Hines and Company at Special Edition and whole lot of rain in the Chicago area. Carey and Kevin are exceeding my expectations on this car. Their attention to detail is remarkable. It will be ready and somewhat sorted for the debut at Carlisle

Congrats! Looking forward to meeting you in Carlisle.
Looks good! I bet you are excited to see it coming together.
Love the stitching on the console Really looking forward to hearing more about your car.
That would be my build if I was starting from scratch

One of the most exciting parts of this build is the engine. It is a Jake Raby built stock 2.5 L fuel injected suby engine. It is being shipped out this a week and Carey expects to start installing it next week.
That dyno footage is awesome! When I blow up my 2045 stroker, I'm going to seriously consider a suby engine as a replacement.
Wow!!! You might need a pilot's license with that thing!!!
One thing to consider, cosmetic, is the addition of Cocomats.com custom mats. I have black ones with red dots woven in that would match the dash treatment you have perfectly. They will even add the red contrast stitching similar to what you have on the dash around the edge of the mats. Look at their site and style #51, the black and red dot, and picture the red stitching. These are top quality as many other SOC members will attest.
I have no interest in the company or am touting for any other reason than I have been very happy with mine, and think they could look pretty good in your new Beck. Congratulations by the way.
If you are so inclined that would tie together nicely.
Something to consider perhaps.

Excellent dyno footage.....you're going to love that engine !
Jay Leno did a segment on Jays Garage about the coco mats they are a great product made here in the U.S.A.
BobG....you make a great point. I hope they have a booth at Carlisle where I can take a closer look and order with specifics.....thanks
You are welcome.
Good luck, great looking car. I like the euro tail lights!
The CocoMat folks have been there for the last several years, so I would expect them to be back. I believe they are made right around Charlotte. Mine have taken a beating for 5+ years now and still look great.
Had cocos in my other speedster, my Boxster and my new speedster. Will never use anything else. Very sandy here in florida
again ......Mr. Hines is 10 steps ahead of me having covered all the bases...... details and customer service........thanks Carey
Carey is the best, no question. Gotta love the guy.
