New alternative in Suby engines

The new Suby engine in the forthcoming Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ looks very interesting.

They are compact and crank out 200 hp from 2 liters. 12.5:1 compression ratio and 7400 rpm redline.

It's interesting that a Toyota based Scion brand would be offering a re badged Subaru?? Looks like a Z car and it's not AWD.

I don't consider it a rebadged Subaru. They worked on it together and they each have a version.

Even the Subaru engine has a Toyota fuel injection system.

Next they'll be putting Toyota engines in Lotus cars!

The BRZ engine would be perfect for a speedster. More compact and lighter than the new 2.0 liter Impreza engine, and 200 hp without a turbo/supercharger, so there is no intercooler to worry about.

One of my Lotus cars had a Renault engine. Toyota is probably better.

Ah, Lotus Europa. Cool little car - I had '59 AH Bugeye with 1275cc and used to challenge Europa on back roads of NJ. He'd run away from me on the curves. Really primitive suspension on the bugeye. Why does the Wheeler Deal guy call it a frog eye? Both were cool minamalistic cars.

Hold out for more HP. It will come shortly. Nothing wrong with 200 but at 275 to 325 now we're talking about ridiculous fun.

Shorter intake and shorter oil pan... PERFECT for the speedster and spyder. Now, hopefully it isn't VVT or they've gotten away from the hydraulic VVT controls so we can actually pull all the power out of it in a standalone application.
