for me it's purely accuracy for the oil temp, fuel gauge and speedo ..... in that order
My trip meter is not functioning even after a rebuild from North Hollywood last year. Having accurate oil, fuel and speedo would be a win.
how is the tach action? fast, slow, flopy, over runs underuns on shifts??I like a fast tach that shows what the engine is doing. and no I dont have a clue as to how the china ones do that my car has now, they have never been powered up.
Tach response is very nice. The first samples were slow to react but that was one of the first things we changed. They are much more accurate than the China repops for sure.
Even the "real", cable-drive 356 tachs had a certain amount of lag/over-run/under-run, not to mention needle bouncing due to old or slightly kinked cables. Just the nature of the beast.
I would be thrilled with +- 10% accuracy on these cars. If I were racing, then +-5% would be even better!
My tach is a lazy guess at what's going on. One of the reasons I installed my ignition with HARD rev limit(coil cut) and drastically retarded timing at 100 rpms under limit. Also, I just use peripheral vision for the shift light. Really, the only actual use for the tach is a place to put the turn indicator!
If you have a Mallory/MSD CD box you have the provision for coil cut rev limit too.
Carey,
I only need the Speedometer and Tachometer do you think you will ever be breaking up the sets of 3?
Just buy the set of 3 so they all match and sell off your old units as a set.
