Hello. back in 95 I bought a used half built CMC Speedster C kit. The guy I bought it
from had already chopped and rewelded a 69 beetle pan and had 2 trannys with no engine. It
sat in storage until last year. Im now putting it together whenever time & money permits.
I bought a totaled 73 2 liter 914 for engine, gauges and whatever else I can salvage.

So here are my questions, any input would be very much appreciated.

- What is the cheapest way to get 4 wheel disc brakes on a 69 beetle?
- Does anyone know how to convert the 914 discs to fit?
- Where is a good place to get a Porsche 901 Transmission?
- Is the Type IV converter shroud from Oregon Performance Products still available?
- When I finish this car, since Classic Motor Carrriages no longer exists, how do I get it
licensed?

Im very anxious to join all you owners of these beautiful machines on the road. And your
guidance would really help.

Thank You, Craig Doring, Olympia WA

I'll get you started. First, for type IV questions the man to talk to is Jake Raby. His web page is:
www.aircooledtechnology.com/
Second, try www.shoptalkforum.com. Once there, in the general forum you will find 'The Porsche 914 forum'. Lots of good information here. Also, check out 'The Type 4rum'. Jake often posts here.
Good luck and keep us informed on your progress.
Ron

Hi Craig - I just got my CMC speedster registered this Spring as the beetle sedan it is rolling on. I used a 1969 beetle as the chassis, and got the title to it when I bought it. When it came time to register it here in Massachusetts, I filled out the RMV-1 form with its' current "look" as if it were still a beetle: Went from a red sedan to a white convertible and used the same VW serial number stamped into the chassis for the VIN. Mass DMV accepted all of it just fine (I told them I put on a convertible body in place of the rusted out original sedan) and I never mentioned CMC or a speedster at all. Same for when I got the inspection sticker - the guy looked at the "VW" convertible, checked the VIN on the chassis against the registration certificate, gave it a safety inspection (no emission test as it is exempt as a 1969 beetle) and slapped on the sticker. Simple as that.

What hassle you get depends on the state you're going to register it in and how persuasive (and pleasent) you are with the DMV counter folks.

Good luck! - Gordon
