No offense Wolfgang, but if the guy wants the original look, this one doesn't cut it.

He needs swingaxle rear end, wide5s, drumskins, aluminum interior, original handbrake etc.....oh, and an aircooled flat four.

The modern wheels, drivetrain, and roll hoops are a no go IMHO.

M and W, or Martin and Walker is the way to go in the UK. Otherwise you'll have to ship a left hand drive car from the US over and that may not be practical.

That particular motor is not a good candidate for a turbo.  It has extremely high compression and is a flex fuel motor that will run gas, alcohol, E85, etc...  You Can turbo them, but you have to use a combo of thicker head gaskets to drop CR and ideally custom JE (or similar) pistons.

Michael,

Feel free to contact me regarding a new build, and I'd also be happy to put you in touch with existing UK clients so you know what you are getting into in terms of passing registration and MOT.  The days of an old US title passing as an "old timer" are long gone... and the process is quite complex.  That said, you may consider a used one already in the UK.  I have sent many of our cars to the UK over the years and they do pop up on the used market from time to time.

Id be really grateful as id consider both a new car and an already existing one!

best M

Hello Michael,

on mobile.de a right hand drive 550 Spyder is for sale...may be it is something you are looking for.

I, myself, am selling a Beck Spyder currently (historic registration in GER mid 80's), but it is a left hand drive.

The car is a basic model, no modifications and untuned engine Type 2 40KW, black with red interior.

Best regards, cal

Hi Michael,

I am also looking at bringing one to the UK, as well as a newbie to this forum and am happy to share my thoughts.

After my research for many months, I have recently specified a Subaru powered 550 Spyder with Seduction Motorsports, I recommend you have a read of their website. Daniel has been very helpful.

Good luck in your planning, that's part of the fun isn't it?

kind regards,

Ian
