New clutch shakes car

Had local guy put in new trans with 3:88 diff. and new clutch. Clutch starts to grab right off of the floor and shakes the heck out of the car until fully released. Mechanic says it's new clutch and will get better. True or do I have a problem? The new diff. really makes a nice improvement. Now I need to install 3rd latch on top to hold it down.

If it engages right off the floor, you probably need to adjust your clutch cable a bit to reduce the freeplay. It's a relatively easy job described in any of the VW books, but it does require that you have access to the clutch release arm coming out of the transaxle. The steps depend on whether you have "the big wingnut" design, or the earlier type.

Norbert glad to hear someone close by is almost ready to go. We have to start up a "South Coast" bunch I am tired of riding 30 to 50 miles of white sand beach by myself...Get in touch when you are sorted and we can ride some.

Three things:
Your Tech is shoveling a bit as it' won't get better on it's own. Adjust clutch pedal up until you have about 1/4" to 5/16" of top pedal play.
Probably don't have enough bend in the Bowden tube, this results in clutch chatter. ~alan

Thanks for the input guys. Bob, I should have known to do the "search" which was right on. Richard, I am working on it and hope to be ready soon. Clutch adjustment and Bowden tube this weekend although wife wants to go sailing.
