Hi all!

I thought I would do a post to thank those who gave me advice on some interior upgrades I did. Here is what was accomplished:

- Switched to Beige Knobs, window cranks, shift knob, etc. Also new more vintage knobs for the AC controls. These all supplied by Henry at IM

- Purchased a restored Becker AM/FM cassette radio. They even put a small self-sensoring input for an Ipod, etc. The radio is not vintage for the car, but I thought it was a good compromise between something appropriate looking and good operating features.

- Custom painted the radio knobs and levers to match the dash knobs. (Also the small heater control knob near the shifter). Paint was supplied by Henry, and I used a small airbrush to apply.

- Replaced the "smaller" Nardi steering wheel with a "larger" Derrington wheel and Porsche horn button. Both supplied by Jeff at Classico Wheels - superb quality.

- Installed the aluminum dash/door trim and the chrome dash handle. For some reason, the PO did not order the car from IM with these features. To me, it makes a big difference.

- Installed sun visors. These are appropriate for a Convertible D. Again, superb quality. These were provided by Louis from Paras Auto.

- I also installed a new Tan boot, replacing the black one. Also supplied by Henry @ IM.

I am very happy with all the changes!!

The Sunvisors were pretty simple. Always a little nervewracking to drill though!! I used a variable speed and took it nice and easy! The windshield frame is heavy meatal, not aluminum. I used stainless steel self tapping marine screws. According to resources I found, the mounting posisition is right next to the latch for the top.

A note about the visors - there are a few versions going around. The correct one for a 59 are the ones with ONE mounting hole per side and. NLA has them (out ostock at the moment) as does Louis Paras (where I got mine).

Hi Bryan,

It is an automatic. I believe Intermeccanica uses a Borg Warner.

Funny thing, before I got the car, i was sure I would hate the automatic and swap it for a manual. Now that I have it, I'm not too sure. Everyone who has driven it feels the same way!

Very surprising....

Wayne, the interior changes are definitely a nice improvement. The ivory pieces really give it a period look, as does your new radio.

If you want to continue with the ivory theme, I have a couple of suggestions. I've noticed that other IM's have an ivory turn signal stalk. You might want to swap yours. I doubt it's that hard to do. You may be able to have your black parking brake handle covered in matching leather by Alan Gunn Leather Interiors (www.aglausa.com). Also, what about the black knob all the way on the left side of the dash? If you need any other knobs etc. painted ivory, www.bumperplugs.com does a very nice job of painting plastic pieces (I had them paint my 911's black rear bumperettes body color and they came out great).

Enjoy the car!
