Yes, Speedstah boys and girls, it's that time of year again when Volkswagen sedans, combis, buses and campers, along with all sorts of strange-looking GM Corvairs (GM's one and only foray into air-cooled leadership, only to become an afterthought even though it was a terrific car), as well as some of the coolest Dune Buggies you've ever seen, head across all compass points to converge on the World Famous Hebert Candy Mansion on Route 20 in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts (our fair state) for the twelth-annual, Volks-Vair Fair XII for 2011 this coming Saturday, Aug 6'th.
Yes, boys and girls, this show has now been going on for over ten (count-em!) years (That's more than we've been showing up for Carlisle, folks, and WAY more than anyone has shown up with a Speedstah Replica in California, right??), often with the help of recently-Speedster-less (but still has his gorgeous Deserter Dune Buggy) Boston Bob Elliot, who has never failed to get his beloved Speedstah Guys some PRIMO parking spaces right out front for the show (how's THAT for a little Speedstah guy pressure, Bob??)
This year, we'll be joined by Len Cannizzarro, recent buyer of a wicked-cherry, white VS Speedster which I went to the wilds of Western Connecticut to pick up and then delivered, through the infamous Boston Route 1-28 traffic, AT RUSH HOUR WITH A TRAILER, BY THE WAY, to the Cannizzaro villa just north of Beantown. A thrill-a-minute trip if ever there was one. We'll also be joined by Ed Santana (no, not Carlos.....the Other one) of the New England TYP 356 group, with his 550 Replica.
I would LOVE to see Lenny C. show up - after all.....If I can drive all the way to Litchfield just to have mediocre food (ok, so the steak N cheese N peppers sandwich was OK) and get rained out, then Lenny can drive to Shrewsbury and get MUCHO better food and the best ice cream on the planet. I would also LOVE to see SuzieStew and Marc show up - either in the Speedstah or the Jag - your choice, as well as John Estes. I'll also call Bill Pickering jr. and everybody else I can think of in the greater New England area to see if we can compete with the "Great Stumpp Garage Unveiling" recently held in Mary's Land. Heck! Last year, Doug Allen came all the way from Portland, Maine (and you know how those "Mainiacs" are).
So............Who's a'comin????? We can all sit around and see if we can spot that Jerry Garcia look-alike, TC!!!!!
