I have a brand new, zero mile, FAT Performance 2258cc TIV long block for sale.  The client decided to go a different route WRT the engine.  It was built as a "turn key" w/ carbs by FAT and then the carbs were removed and it was sent to Competition Engineering in AZ.  Competition Engineering added Redline EFI before shipping to to me.  After deciding not to use the motor, the client had us remove the crank fire, the EFI and the 911 style shroud.  Everything else is intact, plus I kept the matched manifolds with the motor.  E-mail or PM for pics.  $5500 or best offer.

Before I bought my used IM I toyed with the idea of getting another Spyder.  I actually spoke with Carey a couple of times at Beck.  But I also spoke to Greg Leach at Vintage about building me a Vintage Spyder with a Type IV.  FAT Performance is THE Type IV builder in LA.  I can tell you that I priced out that same engine for twice the price for the Vintage Spyder I was thining about.  Bought my used IM for less than what I would have paid for the Spyder.  The rest is history.  I may upgrade my garage with a Spyder some day.  Its a Ducati on 4 wheels.  Someone should grab this engine.

I'm all for torque, but that 2332 is leaving a lot on the table. I'd be stunned if it pulled at all past 5k RPM or so. I'd be willing to bet an engine of similar displacement with good heads and a 120-ish cam (maybe even FK8) would match the torque number at 2k RPM, and leave it for dead by 4K RPM or so.

The only way to pull huge torque numbers at 2k RPM is to run a 3L engine, or turbocharge it, or both.

The free lunches are over on the 'merican V8 forums. Over there, 5 grand will buy you enough torque to satisfy even an overgrown hooligan hick like me. It's a bit harder over on this side of the fence.

The engine Cary posted is a nice start towards that goal, however.

Better off with type 1; any 911 engine is too much weight out back (although there is a sh#t-load of power available) and any 356/912 can't compete with what you can do with a type 1. And I agree with what Stan said above- you could do a lot more with a 2332 and get the same torque as the under done beast Jeff found on Craigslist.

Installing a 2.7 flat six into a speedster is NOT an easy task and if the engine needs a rebuild it will will be VERY expensive.

I had a warmed over 2.7 in my 1970 VW single cab and it went like stink.  Unfortunately, I could never get the thought out of my mind that an engine rebuild would cost more than the truck was worth.
