I bought some tan front hood straps from Dusty at the Pleasant Valley Saddle Shop from Cali. The tan color however wasn't close to my older faded rear clam-shell straps. So I though I'd make my own in an effort to get them closer in color. With the Tandy Leather tan dye I can redo my lighter faded rear to match the ones I made.

Also made a strap for some tools.2017-03-10 22.09.11

Thanks Stan and Al.

Just finished the install. Though not per period in-that the straps would typically be inside of the hood locks and straighter,2017-03-11 12.46.102017-03-11 12.46.212017-03-11 13.16.352017-03-11 13.18.512017-03-11 13.18.552017-03-11 13.19.04 I still like the look. I placed them how I did due to the short area given I have a windshield rather than a plexiglass screen.  The colors are close but I may make new ones for the clam-shell.

2017-03-11 13.18.51Thanks IM Bob.

PH Bob,

I don't think so at least I can't tell form period pic's I have. I did make mine with chafes which is an exta wide-tapered area under the buckles to do just that same as on the rear clam-shell. I believe they may have just had the width of the strap and nothing more on these cars.

Phil, I think that would be cool. I may do it on mine as well.

It's scary though to drill those holes. Here's what I did.  Eyeballed them where I wanted. Used a Sharpie Ultra Fine point marker to mark the hole locations, looked at them from close and distance to see if the location was good, checked and rechecked. Then used clear 2" wide packing tape over my hole marks, put the drill in reverse and on low then did starter holes, then while still in reverse put the drill on high and drilled the holes through being careful not to put too much pressure on the drill to be ready for when it pops through. You don't want to smack the surface with the drill. I then removed the tape and used a small stone taper bit to clean the hole edges. I then used a very small drop of CA and hardener on each hole front and back.  Hopefully this all keeps the FG jell-coat form spider cracking etc. It's just the way I did it, there's better methods I'm sure.

Hope to see you at Carlisle. I'll be there on Saturday if the weather is good. I go for just one day so I will go the best day but I may go on Friday too and drive back home and up again, depends on the weather for me I like the drive there once I'm on 15.

Pete

Thanks Pete

I'll be at Carlisle Thurs afternoon through Saturday afternoon.  Will be driving back to Charlottesville on Saturday at least part of the way on 15.  Maybe we can get together.  First year I drove back from Carlisle to Norfolk in one day.  On the back roads it makes for a very long day so I break it up by stopping in Cville where I have a small house.  You NOVA guys should meet me in Cville sometime to ride the mountains.  I know lots of great routes.

Hey Phil,

I think I mentioned this before very cool Porsche place G & W Motorwerkes, Ltd. is in Waynesboro VA. off Skyline Drive. I game for a Skyline drive ride at some point to that shop.  Google G & W Motorwerkes, Ltd. there are a few pic's that do not do this place justice. I met and spoke to Weldon W. Scrogham the owner last year very nice guy.

That place looks awesome.  Lots of Porsche memorabilia.  However a place like that may chase us away in our plastic cars.

That is definitely my neck of the woods.  Great vineyards and breweries out that way.  We could stop by Blue Mountain Brewery for lunch.

Little known fact.  Waynesboro is where Skyline drive meets the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Speed limit on Skyline drive going north is 35 mph crowded with NOVA site seekers.  Speed limit on Blue Ridge Parkway going south is 45 mph.  Less cars and a lot more fun.  I do the Blue Ridge all the time.

Me, my sweetie and the puppy on the Blue Ridge Pkwy.
