just filled tank and it reads almost empty. i did have my welder add a wire piece to make it longer. could his welding affected the innards of the sending unit or do i ihave a wiring issue.

Did your welder buddy disconnect the battery ground before adding the extra volts to your car via the electrical system? If he didn't, the unit may be fried! along with other stuff.

We are talking about the sending unit here, right? I would hope that you removed the unit from the car before welding? How the hell else could you weld an extension on - from inside the tank? If so, that welder has some crazy welding skills - not to mention a bad safety habit!
Seriously, pull the sending unit out of the gas tank, attach your connections, including a temporary ground (that is normally on the tank itself) and move the unit through its range of motion as you observe the gauge. Is that what you did?

no he welded it in his shop, how the hell u gone weld near a gas tank. i will uninstall tomorrow and go thru motions and see what the frick is going on.

Just a friendly reminder, be sure to disconnect the battery....before removing the sending unit.

re check the wires on the gauge I think you have um backwards
it came this way from VS, i will work on it this weekend, kinda got pissed and said frick it for now.
The vintage ones are bent backwards to work with their gauges. What gauges are you running?
vs, i think bending the arm may work, will look at all the options when i pull it. i generally use the tripometer and fill up when i reach a certain mileage.
ok, just bent the arm the other way and it is reading correct now. i know the exact amt the tank holds so the next six or so topoffs or fills i can get a good handle on if i need to pull it again and bend the sending flaps in or out.
