Welcome John. I see some flares on that avatar picture. What do you have, car, chassis, wheels, engine, trans. Then folks on here could give you a hand.

There are LOTS of different folks on here with different backgrounds, likes, and experience. Lots of help available to you, but you have to weed through it a little. There will be thread drift, we go all over the place, but eventually get back to the subject at hand. Keep an open mind and a sense of humor, you'll do fine!

Welcome To The Madness John! What's the exhaust look like now? As Danny said, we need to know more about the car, and more specifically the engine. The more details the better- displacement and cam/head/ carb combo (or how high it revs with power) are essential to exhaust selection. And we need pics; that avatar just isn't enough. Come on, show off that bad boy!

If the car built on a VW floorpan, then the appropriate Bentley manual for the year of the pan http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDe...uctCode=ACC-C10-9651 or http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDe...CC-C10-9650 and John Muir's Idiot book http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDe...CC-C10-9692 are essential to have.

As Danny also said, lots of different different experience here. Oh look, the cat needs here tummy scratched...Al

John, welcome! Is your car a CMC by chance? If so there is a complete build manual for it in the Knowledge base.

As for an exhaust system--A1 Sidewinder!...a bit expensive but worth every penny IMO.

I just joined the site in Oct and have a CMC widebody and the guys here are very knowledgeable and very willing to share it to help another member

Sorry Lane John can't buy you drinks at Carlisle.  He'll be buying Jim, Ted, troy, Teby, and I drinks at San Luis Obispo in June because he hails from Sacramento, CA.

Welcome aboard, John!

There are several of us locals here in Sac and the outlying areas. I'm in Auburn.

Do join us in SLO and don't forget Tour d'Hoe in September. Check it out in the Events section.

Most of us go with A1 exhaust sytems but Vintage Speed makes a nice one and, depending on your engine size, tri-mill is also an option. Anthony Merjano (anthony) is a member here and is a supplier for Tiger at A1. He also works on a lot of our cars. He's located in Auburn as well. Please feel free to give me a shout if you have questions. tpnuckels @ aol.com

Mention was made of the build manuals for FF/CMC in the library for donating members.  There also is a sparse VS Owners manual which is helpful.  The forum has an effective Search function too --- exhaust pro-cons has been discussed.  There isn't one size fits all answer - depends on engines size, zoom-zoom preferences, # outlets desired.

TheSamba.com is a good reference site too.  Use the thread for your chassis year for suspension and engine reference and there is a Kit Car/Replica thread too - but mostly Manx oriented.

John - for visual & audio reference, here is the A-1 Sidewinder exhaust. You can have the outlet located as you wish (single down exhaust out of muffler, center dual-exhaust, or center single-exhaust). This is is center single exhaust.

Best configuration to squeeze hp out of your engine. Sounds great under acceleration yet mellow during cruising rpm's. Turn your sound up...
