There was a thread on this just a short while back, I can't find it but I thought it lead me to believe that an EMPI hubcap would fit a CiP1 stock type wheel. So, on my bench I have a new wheel, PN VWC-111-601-025E and the empi cap C13-10-1058. The cap is too small. The inside dia of the empi cap is 9  3/8" and another cap that I have measures 9 9/16" ID and it fits perfectly.

If I "tweak" the clips on the wheel by bending them inward, the outer part of the clip is not leaning inboard enough to secure the cap. Can the outer part of the clip be heated and bent inward and retain it's strength ? Any other tips appreciated. Thanks...

Hello David,

If their site is wrong, they will honor the error. They are usually pretty decent about returns and what not.

My guess is that the empi cap fits on a wheel where it fits 'inside' the center hub and the other hubcap fits 'outside' or 'over' the center hub and the clips provide pressure to hold it against the wheel?

I bet they'll let you return them for the right set.

Give 'em a call,

Just to finish off the thread, there is a solution. C1P1 is aware that the wheel they sell is not a good fit with the EMPI hubcap. For that reason, they included a German Hubcap Clip / Rivet kit ( About $12 ) no charge along with my wheel and hubcap. PN is C16-111-115C-GR .

The cure is a pain though. The inferior hubcap clips that are on the supplied wheel will not allow attachment of the hubcap. The clips need to be tweaked but they are of inferior steel and will break off when adjusted. So, the attach rivets need to be ground out, freeing the clips and the new clips need to be attached with the rivits supplied. If you don't have a rivet gun, bucking bar and compressor, you'll have to get a shop to do this for you. I have such equipment but opted to install the new clips with AN screws and nuts. Should work fine.

The new clips need to be tweaked a bit too but they are made of better spring steel and can take the needed adjustment. About 1.5 to 2 hours work in all.

Nicely enough, my Stoddard Porsche hubcap crest fit nicely into the existing three holes in the EMPI hubcap.
