Son-of-a-gun Dave, Except for the louvered engine lid that's the reincarnated spitting image of Maggie Martin's coupe!
That's going to look good in the parade to Carlisle in less than 4 weeks! Outstanding Dave, now get it shipped out here to our wonderful spring weather
Yup I hope the Martins don't mind
Photo captions did not attach. The coupe shots are on a residential Burbank street on a hazy day. The silver Speedster is Tom Murtaugh's. The two cars are parked at the Rock Store-a reputed Leno hangout on Mulholland.
Leno? I heard GERD hangs there!
Looks great! ....Congrats!
Please continue to post your impressions....I'm curious to know the outcome of your steering concern.
Dave, it's gorgeous! Really looking forward to a closer look in Carlisle!
Dave,
Looks terrific!
Dave, make sure that you bring a bunch of soft, absorbent towels to wipe off all of the drool. You will probably have many requests for rides in that beauty.
Perfect, Dave!
With apologies for my complete and total lack of editing capabilities, here's our run down Tuna Canyon:
And here's a shot from lunch at the Rock Store...
Dave, I really enjoyed meeting you and I wish you the best of luck with your beautiful new ride. You're going to have a blast in Carlisle!

DAMN THAT RIGHT SEATER WOULD BE JUST PERFECT FOR VINCES MIATA
Note the NLOL(nice little old lady)pushing her bike up the road at the 7:04 mark
Nice video, Tom!
Hey Doc! Your coupe turned out very nice! I know that you were sporting a BIG-ASS grin the entire time you were driving down Tuna Canyon into Malibu Beach. Tom LOVES driving that road!
Yeah, I noticed Tom's right seater seemed bored..."Tuna Canton, AGAIN?"
Musbjim/Carl Correctomundo! That B-A grin recurs just watching the video. We have no roads to compare to these canyon roads in Indiana; our highway engineers don't embrace the terrain like yours do. I am mega indebted to Tom Murtaugh for taking me to his favorite driving roads--he's the best! Nugget the Speedster dog has seen it all--just chills in his canine Recaro and designer eyewear
One inquiring mind wants to know if Tuna Canyon is a one way road?
Rich. Yes it is a one-way road
Part of it After the crest it transitions to one way so one can use all the road. Surface is good(to this Midwest pothole refugee), signs warn of rock slides and not much runoff space or Armco. It makes 30mph feel like 70mph
One of the things that delights me about these speedsters is the illusion that I'm going faster than I really am... that it's a lot quicker than it really is...and that I'm a lot younger than I really am!
It's always surprising that when I feel I'm bending the speed limit that the suburban SUV ahead of me is merely poking along while its driver is fluffing her hair and applying lipstick in the rear view mirror instead of concentrating on keeping all four wheels on the blacktop as I'm doing.
Carl, a few years ago I went on a spirited ride with a friend. He was driving his Autocross-prepared Miata with street tires, me in my Spyder. It had a Flyin' Miata turbo kit and aftermarket ECU in it among many other things. 245 hp TO THE WHEELS! Not a typical Miata at all, I had to work hard all day to stay with him. At the end of the ride, I was sweat-soaked and exhausted from all the wheel twisting action. He was fine, just stepped out of his point-and-shoot car, drove all day with two fingers on the wheel and a yawn! He couldn't believe I could stay with him. I think I had more fun......
Danny, I've owned a Miata set up for the track, so I know how well they handle. Kudos to your car, and your driving ability, to be able to keep up with a well set up Miata with 245 whp.
Thanks Ron! I led for a bit on roads I knew. Very fun to see the difference between NA and turbo, waiting a sec for his to spool up. Are we ever going to meet any of you Canadians? Ron, Al, Paul?
Really drifted the crap out of this thread, sorry Dave!
Are we ever going to meet any of you Canadians? Ron, Al, Paul?
I have to get my IM back on the road first.
Are we ever going to meet any of you Canadians? Ron, Al, Paul?
I would love to come to Carlisle (I've never been as far east as Winnipeg) but not this year. I'm thinkin' about it though....
Great video. Two words come to mind: FANTASTIC & HELLACIOUS! Wow. Great colors too.
Are we ever going to meet any of you Canadians? Ron, Al, Paul?
I would love to come to Carlisle (I've never been as far east as Winnipeg) but not this year. I'm thinkin' about it though....
Oh boy; that should read "I've only been as far east as Winnipeg"...
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has posted a reply (and reread the text before posting) only to read it later (after the 'fix your post' expires) and see spelling mistakes or poor grammar.
Ron, we have become too reliant on spell check. But it does not check grammar or poor use of words. Too, to, two, where, wear; all pass spell check! I always feel foolish to go back and read my butchering of the English Language.
Thread drift. Happy Easter to all. Art
You're right guys, we all occasionally do it. When I read that one again "oh, boy..." is exactly what I said
???? but..but..but i havent even posted on this thread......yet.darn spellen/grammer police are getten detectives on thie r sides... nice coupe!!!! wish mine was a coupe.
DAVE, TOM, By the way - just how fast were you going on the Tuna Canyon run…….."great video"!!!!!!! John
<Maaaybe> we got up to 40 mph once or twice, but the vast majority of the time we were well under 30 mph. The crazy thing is that in an entire day of driving all over Malibu and both ends of Mulholland, the switchbacks and elevation changes of Tuna Canyon got our adrenaline pumpin' more than any other run.
To paraphrase Mr. Carl Berry above, slow car fast > fast car slow!
down to 15 mph in the >180 degree hairpins and up to 50 mph in the brief undulating straights this translates to 80+% 2nd gear and occas 3rd gear with these torquey Subarus frankly there were not many opportunities to check the speedo what with the elevation changes, blind corners and warning signs re rock slides we had a blast my opinion: Tuna Canyon Road has replaced Mulholland as the iconic SoCal sports car/moto drive
Dave;
That is way cool! I love your blue coupe. Thanks for sharing! Keep updating your adventures for those of us, with dreams of a coupe!

@5:51 in the video, someone came in a little hot... locked 'em up and woke up Nugget.
How does that dog stay so calm?!
T
I cannot tell a lie--it was Tom
Dave, Congrats on your beautiful Coupe, the Martin's are crying our eye's out. Love the interior color. We wish you nothing but good luck and best wishes with your Coupe. We will be at Carlisle, sans Speedster or Coupe, but with our beloved 1968 Porsche 912.
Dave,
Are you running different wheel widths front and back?
