Bob may never forgive Bruce for what is about to happen to him here. Do we have a morale obligation to warn him about certain owners predilections toward the bizare and insane? Does he have a probation period before being fully subjected to the minds of the automotively deranged? Can he handle a new speedster AND the Vince-Gerd-Mike-etc troica all at once? What exactly are our obligations . . ?
Hello All
I had several car related questions, but after reading the remarks on this blog, I can't help but wonder what the heck a sammich is? Anyway, I am in need of a lot of parts, some of which include a gas tank, seats and tracks, front and rear parking light assemblies, some door handle gaskets, pedal assembly, etc. Any suggestions on where to get these items? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Bob
Bob,
Welcome. I get alot of my VW related stuff from Cip1.com and sometimes Mid America Motorworks. Engine and performance stuff from CB Performance. There is also Chirco VW as well as many others for VW related items. As far as Speedster stuff there is NLA, Stoddards and Klasse 356 for original 356 items as well as the vendors like Special Edition, Vintage and JPS. Carey at Special Edition and Kirk at Vintage are awesome guys that can usually answer "fitting" questions.
You can always post in the Classified Section here on SOC asking if anyone has a specific item you may need. Alot of these guys have been building cars for a long time and have acquired an excess of some items.
Get yourself a digital camera, become a donating member and ask away. I've done soooo much work to my car with the help of everyone here it's hard to think of where I'd be without them, and I can't tell a phillips head from a flat head. You're in good hands here.
Bob - Attached you will find one (1) explanatory picture of the (in)famous egg sammich, along with two (2) photos of same being consumed by Teresa Drake(#1), and Leon Chupp(#2). These last two photographs illustrate the shear gustatory delight induced by sammich consumption - not to mention the coma induced by carbohydrate and fat overload. I urge you to explore the wonderful world of egg sammiches with us at Carlisle in May.

We get all of our egg or "sausage, ham, bacon and cheese" sammiches from the Carlisle High School Marching Band Support Booth. All net income goes to support this 300+ member, award-winning, marching band unit. The last egg sammich I looked into had something like three or four eggs in there. They are, indeed, a good buy.

There are other food booths (all very good) at the Carlisle show grounds, to be sure, but this is where we always seem to end up.

You can also go to the Pennsylvania Dutch, Greek Falafel, Roast Beef, hamburger, Salad or ice cream booths, and I'm probably forgetting another ten of them (like "Debbie's Hot Buns").

BTW: I think that Hank Ketchum, the creator of Dennis the Menace, coined the term "Sammich" back in the 1950's.

On the "Where should I get parts"? question, it depends on what you want to buy. I would find a copy of Hot VW's magazine at your local, well equipped book store and peruse the ads all through it. That should be a good start as to who is selling what, and you can ask us on here as to who's selling the better quality stuff for any particular part. Most VW parts I bought from Mid-America, SoCal Imports (although they may have gone downhill in quality lately), Cip1 and a few others. For genuine Porsche parts (get out your BIG wallet!) I went to Vintage Speedsters, Performance Auto, Automotion, Tweeks (now mid-America), Stoddard's and NLA. There's a long list of suppliers over on the other site under "Speedster Tech/Speedster Building and maintaining web sites"

Good luck....

Folks,

I have to apologize as I just got back into this original post and saw all of the comments and photos made after my initial inquiry into the infamous sammich.

Thanks for all the suggestions and of course the photos of the "sammiches". I will definitely be visiting the sites that were suggested and I look forward to getting more involved in this site as well.

I have to say that in the short time since purchasing the car, I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking to a lot of very nice people. Even my wife, who is not a car fanatic like me, has been pleasantly surprised at the people and the rapier wit. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Bob
