i'm going to keep saying it - that is very well done.

VERY well done
SWEET!!! That's a work of art!!
new slide in windoe
I've said it before but it needs to be said again - that's awesome! The swoop of the drip rails and those detail lines are Barry White smooth.
Are you going for a removable hardtop or something permanent?
How much does the top weigh? Does the body need extra reinforcement to carry it?
I'm really liking the side window.............good work, very good work.
thanks guys ! ye Ted its removable & I recon it weighs about 15 kilos ,very light so no need to reinforce , i recon its lighter than a glass one
Removable? Really? I was starting to believe it was stationary. That makes it even more amazing. Great work!
That's pretty darn light! A single person could probably remove and install that without too much trouble.
Something to think about - I'm sure it would be a pain, but maybe you could work up a brief article geared towards complete idiots like me with basically no fabricating experience about how you make one of these - including general info like what to look for in the beetle top, where to cut, what to weld, what weather stripping you use, etc. There are probably a lot of little details that aren't immediately obvious from the photos that would be important to know when building a top like this.
Theron could put it in the library or knowledge section for future folks.

the 'where to cut' piece would be helpful for me too. even rough measurements. i know all our (car) bodies are different, but a ballpark would be awesome.
ye am gonna do that ,also gonna take a mould ,got alot of interest in orders already , I guested the weight & its 20 kilos not 15 ! still light thou
slotting in window
rubber seal
plan B
front fixing for windscreen support post just needs welding on roof & the grenade pin slips in
My head would be hard up against the roof, but it'd be worth it because it looks soooo good. Incredible work!
Lane, a sun roof or rag top would do it for me...
Given Oliver's obvious skills, a sliding steal sunroof should be easy peasy for him.
friggin awesome. i love the detail
regarding the mold - since youare on the other side of the pond - has anyone considered shiping? for 20kg at that size i would think shipping would be uber coin. I wish i could just order this, but i suspect shipping would be ~$600-1000?
hmm maybe a trip to visit olie and this would be amy carry on on the return flight?
If there is access to a shipping port, it could easily be top loaded in a 4 car shipping container, probably no more than $200 - $300 in cash and cash would be the "excitment" to get it moved.
...and I bet it wouldn't cost but a bit more to 'nest' two or three of them together!
oh - now we're talking!
if I get a move on ,maybe Santa could ship em
As sweet as that idea is, remember that some custom fitting work is likely to be needed on every car.
plan C now with door windows pics to follow shortly
fooolkin windows
Ollie:
In case you're thinking about roll-up door windows, the tracks and mechanism from a 1966-1971 VW sedan will work with a little rework to make them fit, like glassing in some mounting tabs on the bottom of the doors (or a bottom bracket to mount to the lower inside panel). Other years may work as well, I'm just not familiar with them. The door seals along the top of the door can be made to work, too. The one car I've seen this done on had 1/4" thick plexiglass windows, not glass. Don't know how the bureaucrats would feel about Plexi in the UK.... But a decent glass shop might be able to cut down some glass sides for ya.
gn
Ollie - where are your side door catches? mine are in the standard VS/CMC spot near the top. i thought that IM put theirs lower (closer to the middle) so that there was room for the glass regulator.
Are you remounting (or mounting) yours in the middle?
just got window frames zink coated pics to follow
D U D E!
for the love of god - we (I?) need more than 4 pictures !!!
will do Paul gutted that I couldnt do winde up windows only bolt ons
sorry for blowing smoke up ass
wish you all have a merry christmas
The roof line carried from the top down onto the mid section of the B' sail panel is the bomb !
Ollie,
Non-retractable windows is disappointing. Bolt on does winterize your ride...BUT, what about a sunroof or a shortened rag top for paying tolls, BurgerKing drive through, or the satisfaction of being able to wave the bird to inconsiderate unconscious drivers???
you too buddy!
damn, the lines on this project look awesome......
I think I am in love.
I want one too as soon as you are ready to ship. : )
what did you use for rear glass oly? looks like oem molding / with cut chrome trim
Paul its only Polycarb with shortend rubber seal with plastic chrome trim off VW
My head would be hard up against the roof, but it'd be worth it because it looks soooo good. Incredible work!
Lane am about 5'9 & thuz not alota room
